Is my engine blown???? PLEASE HELP!!!!
Pretty much beat my cars *** last night. Boosting a lot. 8 psi on a d16y7. All of a sudden smoke everywhere and the car kept stalling out. Oil everywhere under the hood, oil and coolant on the ground. That makes me think its the head gasket. Threw some oil in it, there wasn't any left in it, started it up, and smoke was POURING out of the valve cover breather. No unusual knocks or pings. Any opinions? I know its hard to say without seeing and hearing the car, but does this scenario sound familiar to anyone? Any assistance is greatly appreciated. TIA.

Hrmm... Sounds like it could be a number of things. The smoke..is it more like steam (HG), or solid; and what color is it?
With the oil/coolant everywhere, make sure you didn't blow any lines before assuming HG. I've blown the cap off my radiator, blew a feed line, and shot oil everywhere. Sounds like something might have happened under the hood, but you kept going w/o oil for a few seconds; and spun something. Does it start/run now, and how well?

Thanks for the assistance. I have to watch how much I post because I'm limited to five a day. Its not steam. This thing smokes bad. It starts up, idles fine, but smokes badly. Its grey smoke.
ringlands huh? I was afraid of that. Would you pay to fix that problem, or would you just swap the engine? I found a complete y8 motor, with tranny, ecu, harness, mounts, manifolds, everything, 43,000 miles, for $700. Fix or swap? How difficult would it be to swap out the y7 with the y8?
it's easy to swap them out...i'd just sawp the motor...and all you would need is the long block and ECU, wiring harness
Make it a day.

Just got back from picking up the y8 motor. Tranny, linkage, complete motor, axels, harness, ecu, manifolds, 43K, $700. Swap will begin tomorrow. Glad I have a Helms...
How much boost can the stock y8 handle?????

Bump before bed...9:30 on a saturday night. Hunting an engine and hauling an engine with a crazy hangover = exhausted. Blew the motor last night and started on these
Like I stated in the previous post, swap will begin tomorrow. I've never done a swap before, any helpful tips and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the tips so far.

Just make sure there are no wiring issues with the new motor. Otherwise, its all pretty simple grease monkey work. Just follow your HELM and you'll be ok.
The only difficult part is tapping the pin out of the linkage(if you are keeping the linkage you have). If the other motor needs a new linkage, then you can just take the whole thing out underneath the shifter.
If you come across any probs...just post em up. Good luck...

Holy hell. That was a bitch. Took all day, into the dark. Motor is in, but thats it. The harness has to be run to the ecu and various plugs and connectors need hooked up. Turbo must be put on, oil pan still needs swapped, axels gotta go in, and the shift linkage has to be put back up. That shift linkage pin really pissed me off. Not as much as the rear motor mount though
. How much tranny fluid am I gonna need? That fluid poured for days out of the old tranny. I'm sure I'll need help tomorrow, so if you are interested in offering tips, check this post throughout the day. All in all, it wasn't as hard as I thought. I hope having vtec + boost will be worth it. I wanna thank civbeater90 for lending me his hoist. Fellow HT member helping me out

I've got a couple of questions... on the 99-00 EX, the secondary o2 sensor plug, comes through the floor of the car. I have an LX and it doesn't have a plug down there. On the new y8 wire harness, I could only find one 02 plug. What can I do about this??? Also, I'll be installing an inline pump, and I need to know what color wire and a location for an ignition source. TIA
