Default My Boost Set up

Hey guys, just want to post what my car set up will be soon. I've been hearing turbo this and supercharge that....Im, sick of stock WRX beating my lowly stock GSR so I decided that I am gonna boost it. Not because i want to beat them, but because I'd want to squeeze more juice from my car and escalate the fun factor

Since turbo kits are expensive, $8000Aus, thats $4000US, installed, I was talking to him for cheaper alternatives and here's what we are doing for my GSR:

Im buying a second hand T28 turbo from S14 silvia.
Second hand front mount intercooler from r32 gtr
New Ecu.....prolly Haltech or Motec
replace the injectors with s14 injectors.
He will install downpipe, highflow cat and exhaust - 3 inch all the way
second hand BOV from WRX
and it will be tuned and set to 8psi

all in all I am only Paying just a little over $4000Aus which is $2000US...

is this a great deal or what? tell me what you guys think, suggestions.......Have I left out anything? issues to be addressed????also what will my 1/4 mile time be????

What do turbo GSR set at 8psi normally run there in US

The T28 will be a little bit small for the high flowing GS-R motor. And correct me if I'm mistaken but I believe SR20DET injectors are Side feed, not top feed like Honda injectors.

small???U think so???Stock s14 boosts 8 psi....Im not gonna go over that....I dont want to have so much turbo lag which is why i chose this....anybody disagree???

also unless you have injectors from old engines like fj20's, doesnt the new injectors on new engines have universal fitting????

Well most injectors are standard somewhat, however there are two very different kinds, top feed and side feed. I'm pretty sure SR20DET's use side feed injectors. I know this because my friend just bought an SR20DET for a sand rail and it pretty much had side feed injectors. As for the turbo lag, yes you will have a very responsive turbo but your top end will lag. A properly sized turbo which is efficient on the GS-R motor will lag a little bit but it will be faster. With your setup I think you are looking at mid 14's.

BTW, for $2000 there are people over here that will make entire kits for that much with mostly new and some used parts. I have a friend that does them for about $2200 but with your standard FMU and Fuel pump setup as opposed to the standalone.

Ok, I'll look for other injectors or maybe just buy a new one that would suit the set up.
Which turbo should I get then? t3/t4??? I need to get used ones (budget...)

Mid 14's only?????I doubt that...8psi on a GSR with 3' exhaust all the way.....shouldn't I be in the high 13's????

also, what are you talking about with the people building turbo set up for $2000????can you give me a name??? There are a lot of tuners here who know their stuff....but because integra aint so popular than there, tuners here have different opinions and sometimes decline to do the set up...

your turbo is way too small for the engine, and turbointeg is right you will be running 14's @ 8psi on streets. Just spend the extra couple hundred and get a hybrid (t3/t04e), then you will start pulling the times you are hoping for. the people building turbo kits for 2k are either going to junk yards and getting used parts, or paying for everything at or below cost.

It's not about PSI, airflow is the main concern. You can build a turbo kit with new parts and a remanufactured T3 turbo for about $1400. I know, I've done it. The $800 on top of that is what my friend charges for labor when he makes kits for people.

Hmmm yeah i havent looked into how much motec goes for....but I know haltech is only 1500AUS which is like $750US.

Ok now im convinced that T28 is small(coz u guys know your ish through expereince with honda's) Should I get the T3 or the hybrid T3/t4????coz i might boost 12psi on the tracks since ill have the stand alone ECU.....also, we have 98 octane pump gas here....whats the max should i boost with that on the streets with the right tuning???

thanks dudes

Hey, I was just talking to my workmate who knows something bout cars....anyway, i told him about the t28 being too small for the GS-R and the T3 turbo is a better buy. He disagreed. He said T28 are made for small engines like ours. he said an s14 turbo will match my engine perfectly. He said If I was to buy a T3 off a V6 engine or even an engine with 2.5+ litres, that the T3 turbo would be big. Now he recommended if I was to get a T3, I might as well get it off an engine relatively close to the size of the GS-R engine.......So what do i do guys, I'm confused now.....

He explained to me that T28 turbo's are close to each other on specs and the T3's may vary from which engine it came from......I know a custom turbo might be the best route but Its too expensive to get just the turbo customized.....HELP please clrear things up as you guys have experience....

Should I get T28 off S14 silvia and boost upto 12psi on the track and 8psi on the street???

or should I get a T3 off a V6 engine will have so much lag and run 8psi on the street???

thanks

Your friend is pretty much completely all the way wrong. Even the T3 turbo is alittle bit small for a GS-R. Why do you think a stock eclipse boosting 10 psi or whatever only puts down about 190 hp to the wheels. meanwhile a GSR with a properly sized turbo on 10 psi is putting down nearly 300 hp. With the correct turbo, yes there will be some lag but that's the price you have to pay. The t28 is way to small. you might as well stay all motor. You dont want to go through all this trouble to have like 30 more hp. All Im' telling you is from experience, I've had a turbo on my car for about 2 years now. I've seen cars with small turbos and I've seen cars with big turbos. It needs to be the correct size or it doesnt work that well.

ok ok I know I want T3 turbo...but the second hand turbos i can get my hands on comes from 3litre v6 engines......
What I need is a T3 turbo that comes from a 2 litre engine or near its size right?????

Which cars have T3 turbos and near our engine capacity???

U said you are using T3 turbo.......From which car was that off????

I hope this thread is informative to others

I believe that if you get a smaller turbo like a t28 and work it at 8psi opposed to getting an t3t04e and working that at 8psi the t3t04e is going to produce more power because its larger even though they work at the same psi. Just follow what these guys are saying and look for a t3t04e turbo, perhaps you could find a used drag III turbo kit. Or find the pieces of one and slowly put the kit together your self, then you'd be able to save easier by buying the parts one at a time.

I cant get a t3/t04 turbo which is used.....Theyve got brand new turbos.....The only second hand turbo i can get my hands on is T3 off v6 engines....which will have so much lag as the GS-r exhaust will have a hard time spinning it opposed to the v6 engine it came from...

What If i get the WRX turbo???would that make decent power??????

The S14 comes with a T28, 60 trim 60mm compressor in a T04B housing, 62 trim 53.8mm T25 turbine in a .64 A/R housing. The turbo is also ball bearing from the factory which means quicker spool time! This turbo will be able to support 240-260 hp. This would be a great low boost street turbo, quick spool up and moderately good top end!
