Default Muffler on dumptube

For you guys running an open dumptube, has anybody thought of putting a small muffler on it to quiet it down, rather than re-routing it into the exhaust? Are small mufflers like that even manufactured?

whats the point of queting down adumptube? its only open when you are at WOT ripping on the car and at that point the exhaust is gonna be loud anyways.

Not my exhaust, the dumptube is much louder than anything else when the car is at full boost.

my car is the same way with a 2 1/4" exhaust but whats the point? if your ripping on the car why does it need to be quiet?

you could probably get a muffler from a quad and run it under the car somewhere but it seems like an awful waste of money and time.

Thanks for the input on the quad muffler, but I don't care whether you think this is a waste of time or not.

My boy did a Yoshimura oval GSX-R muffler out the side of his DA a while back. Said it worked like a charm. He had it so you couldnt see but the back of the exhaust body and tip from a oval hole cut out the side of his bumper. There was also a DA in an old issue of Import Tuner magazine YEARS ago wit the same setup, but I cant find the mag.

And I see what you mean. Some people still dont want the noise even when they ARE at WOT. I guess its just their preference. I dont like it either, thats why im closed loop.

However, I DO like the quad idea! I may try it when my new Spoolin mani/DP/DT combo comes in. My boy owns a muffler shop, and I think the horsepower gains going from CL to open will be worth doing that setup. Im always down for trying something different.

I think a gsx-r muffler like that is a little too big for what I'm looking for, but that setup does sound sweet

My dumptube is just a foot or so long pointed at the ground, I want something really small to put on it right in the engine bay. Maybe some sort of lawnmower muffler might quiet it down a bit? I don't want it dead silent but slightly quieter would be nice. I also don't want anything too restrictive that would cause boost creep. Thanks for the input!

lol, i think the first thing u need to do is route it under the oil pan.

And if ur looking to make it only a little more quiet, than ANY muffler would do the trick.

If a GSXR1000 is too big, get one from a 600, probably be easier to find also.

A lawnmower muffler is way to restrictive for any car app., they have rediculous angles and alot of packing.

I think he was, he was just throwing out options. But yes, do route it under the oil pan, that'll make it easier to mount whatever you decide on, and run it beside your exhaust system if you have proper clearance. Whats the diameter of your tube, 1.5?

Yea, it's 1.5"

I'm not going to route it under the pan, I'm either going to leave it as is or throw some cheap small muffler on it.

How about finding a used muffler from a little Honda XR or CRF50 on EBay or something. The diameter should be about 1.5".

Thanks for the idea!

I guess I'll either have to route some more piping to run a larger muffler like that, unless I can find some sort of smaller lawnmower or similar muffler for it.

Route it back into your downpipe, it will be cheaper than buying a muffler or resonator. And it will be quieter and cleaner.

well you are ****** stubborn and you have not stated a valid reason not to.....

if done correctly it will
-not cause boost spike
-be quieter than any muffler on a dumptube
-wont make anything dirty with soot like where the exit is now

just route it back in correctly.

well, whatever you do.. its gonna consist of welding. why not just reroute it to the dp which will guarantee it will quiet down. you could just spend the money looking for a small muffler, get it all welded on, and not be happy with the results.
