Most reliable motor for boost?
If I'm planning to go FI in the future... which motor would be most reliable to start off with... im sure all motors can fit a turbo if it was built... but i wanted to know which motor would be good to start off with from stock.... thanks...

Thats easy, the Ford 300 Straight 6. Low compression, and a forged crank from the factory.
Or a B-18B, as mentioned above

Re: Most reliable motor for boost? (JHU EH2)
No. They have really short gearing and B18Bs only go to 7k rpm.
I used to have a JDM B16 tranny w/LSD on a built B18B1... and yeah it was torquey but you are constantly shifting. 3rd gear topped out at like 75 or 80mph.
To get the most out of short gearing trannys you need to rev the engine out.

With a stock LS, I like the stock tranny.

Re: Most reliable motor for boost? (dustin)
i see... so i should stick with the stock B18B tranny if I went with a turbo B18B... any facts or opinions on turbo B16's guys? are they any good? or is the high gears enough to turn away from that direction?

Turbo B16s are good too. Turbo anything is good
B16 has higher static CR so it's not as "safe" to run higher boost on the engine on pump gas. But they make good power if you boost them
non VTEC + boost = good
VTEC + boost = gooder

Have you thought about an Ls/Vtec? Best of both worlds. Also just to be on the safe side you might look into getting rod's and pistons.

Some will disagree. Some of us are Torque ****** . I miss my LS.

LS motors are gay... worst head/cams known to mankind and a shitty long geared tranny. So right away you have to ditch those... might as well start off with a better motor if you don't mind spending a little more money. The LS has weak rod bolts as well compared to a B16/GSR/Type R. The LS is the last thing I would get...

i'm planning the same set up as you sir. but they thing is, i want to hit 300 whp and i read stock blocks/internals can reach that with no problem. i don't know if i should sleeve the block. save me 1000$ if i do not need to. but pistions/rods for sure~!

LS motors put down 120wph stock for a reason. It's because they don't flow enough air to burn more fuel. Head flows poorly, yucky cams, yucky topend. You make power on hondas by making torque at high RPM. LS doesn't have high RPM.
They are just cheap, reliable motors. That's why people use them.

Re: Most reliable motor for boost? (deLasoL7)
they still rev to 7k.
putting a turbo on any car tends to increase "high end capabilities" somewhat
tuned jeremy's built LS to 15psi (revlimit is 8k) and torque seriously drops off after 6k rpm (stock cams, built head). The engine gets REALLY "vibratey" after 7k too. The way to make "power" on an LS is lots of boost.. that's pretty much how you do it.

Re: Most reliable motor for boost? (dustin)
is it recommended? i plan to just go with some rods/pistions and a little bit of head work. will 300whp shorten the lifespan of my block haha

Cams and heads are ****.....I'll give you that but, Come on now. Plenty of us (including myself) have been very happy w/ the LS motor. I'd take an LS over an SOHC any day of the week .
