Missing 5th gear?

Missing 5th gear?
I have a 89 Integra drivetrain in my 87 CRX.
I recenetley replaced the tranny because my old one blew up the diff and destroyed the case.
The one I put in seems to work fine, but I have no 5th gear. I can put it in 5th, but the engine spins liek im in nuetral. Does the tranny have to be removed, or can I just remove the casing. Any special tools needed to replace the 5th gear? I have all parts that im goign to use from my old destroyed tranny.
