Default Might be Purchasing a Boosted Type R...Engine Problems

Hello,
I recently took a look at a 2000 type R.The car is infamous in my town and is known as one of the fastest cars around. It was traded in at a dealership about a month ago and then my friend told me about it.They wanted 12900 for a car that is pushing 400 whp.Im also a subaru technician so a little work doesnt hurt me.Heres my issue....
When i start the car there is smoke coming out of the breather filter...After driving the car...there is oil everywhere! There is also coolant around the radiator. The car also smokes out the exhaust while driving. Its not bad cruisin on the highway but when you come to a stop light it looks like someone has a smoke machine near the car.

Now i would be getting a crazy deal because they offered me 8000 cash plus the car for my stock wrx.But im wondering do you think that the engine needs a rebuild?Could it be fixed if i removed all the aftermarket components and replaced with stock?Anyone have a similar problem

the smoke coming from the breather could be a sign of blow by, which could be the piston rings..

i would do a compression and a leak down test and see how the results are.. if the engine needs a rebuild and you get a good deal on it, go for it, and make some more power

its hard to say without further diagnostics.. but it cant hurt to freshin the motor up.. run a comp and leakdown test.. look at it as a time to upgrade the internals!

to tell you the truth the engine has so much money in aftermarket parts i think i would just sell them and go stock....i know you guys wouldnt want to hear this on Forced Induction forum but i probably would.Or at least a B20 short block

Rings$100, maybe valves and head gasket$80(OEM)?/head studs$100(ARP). Sounds like the cylinder walls and bearings should be okay. Is the engine sleeved? Does the engine sound healthy?

do you know the set up by chance??
depending on the severity of the problem, you could rebuild, get it tuned and make good power...
