Default map sensor question.

call me a noob but i have never heard about these till i recently started reading about it. on my old setup (9lb) i never changed any map sensor. right now im in the process of putting my car back together from the build and i think this map sensor might be stoping me from finishing. so question being.

what is a 3 bar map sensor? what do i need it for? where do i get a good one? and where the hell does it go? will not having one interfer with me trying to make the 400hp power that i am looking for?

sorry to sound like a noob. thanks for the info

Fleebay. Got my GM 3 bar map sensor for around £30. Think if your keeping the boost down you can get a map sensor blanking plate to stop the engine managment light coming on? Am sure someone will correct me if im wrong.
