Default MAP sensor problem

okay, I took my car for a drive today for the first time...
it idle kinda orugh, I though it was the timing at first...

but then it started to run really weird.....the RPM needle would jump up and down and it shoot up to 7000 RPM eventhough the actual idle is low, but it's still kinda lumpy....

at couple occasion, it actually stalled out and I could not re-started it until a few tries. and when it does it would run very rough and as soon as I threw it in gear, it'd stalled out again.....

plus it's making a very very loud hisisng sound.....

but it never threw a code until 30 mns ago...so my question is, could a bad MAP sensor do this ? at one point I thought it was a bad speed sensor since it stalls out, but again, it runs like **** at idle and neutral too....

and what kinda of car does the GM 3 bar map sensor came out of ? is it something I can pick up at a chevy dealership ? I worked next to one.....

reason I am asking is if I have to buy another map sensor, I might as well buy a 3 bar GM ones ...

tia

I think the Hissing sound is because u have no DOWNPIPE. i dont think u should be driving without that downpipe on a brand new motor. i have no reason to tell u not, just doesnt seem like a good idea to me. hehe

LOL, I am still NA, I still have your header chris hehehehehe

it threw a code 5, which is a MAP sensor code...

I lost the O-ring for the map sensor, so I used my bro's map sensor o-ring, I reset the ECu then installed the O-ring...the hissing noise went away...

but the eratic idle is still there.....

at one point, I held the RPM at 3K and the RPM needle jumped to 6K and went to 1K at an instant and the rev is still normal where I held it at...

now, my tail light kept on burning fuse....

after 4 cigarettes in 10 minutes I started to think....

I welded my JDM front end and I use a service reminder terminals to hook up my pos and neg terminals since I have to use the chassis to ground the welder...

Could my ECU fried ?

long shot, but any ideas?

check your wiring for the front running lights. maybe its grounding out somewhere in the front, which will cause your tail lights to short as well.

Swap ECUs with someone else. If the problem is still there, try swapping around sensors, distributor, etc...

well, I hook up the JDM front end light, and all the wiring is still the same with the exception of the ground wires, I had to combine the parking lights and the hi beam ground in one...

but you can combine all groudn wires without shorting up the tail light, can;t you ?

Sounds like a bad ignitor/ICM. Find out what code first, but that is what I think it is. Is the distributer new to you on the car? Did you add a MSD?

firs thing i would try is check all your grounds. it sounds weak. next check and see if your map is clogged. then try known good ecu. then try known good dist.

Problem solved...thanks to LSTurbo91..it turned out the ground cable for the ignitor was bad....Integra7 told me that a tach going crazy is usually the ignitor...
so I checked the dist, rotor and ignitor, everything look fine....

LSTurbo91 told me that he once had a problem with the ground cable was loose....so I tightenede it while the car is running and sure enough the idle went to normal....no more eratic idle..

now that I see it, Sparkz thought of the same thing too...

but I think I might have blown a circuit in the tail lights and gauge cluster..since the fuse is good, but the light is not..the gauge cluster works, just the lights is crapping out on me...no biggie, I can troubleshoot it tmw...

MY gosh, I love all of you....

Conclusion: I can build and start and finish anything....I sucks *** at trouble shooting...
