Default Manual Boost Controller.....

I did a search and found a couple of topics on MBC's but they werent very useful and informative to me for some reason. Anyways, I'm planning on getting a MBC to save some money over one such as GReddy Profec-B, APEX, etc. Will the MBC do the same job as other boost controllers I mentioned? I know boost controllers will make me spool faster than normal but will a MBC do the same job just as good? I want a manual one because I dont need to digital stuff. Plus, Ill be way way too tempted to turn up the boost....one min itll be 7..the next will be 12, and I dont want to have that temptation...

Cliffs...Will the MBC work just as well as a Dig boost controller?

-ThankS

Here is a boost controller that I have used. Its as cheap and easy as you can get. Just an idea. You can also build one from parts anyone can buy....

I already have a manual boost controller. GReddy manual as well. I was just wondering if it would perform the same way as a Digital Boost Controller..such as Apex Super AFC-R or a GReddy Profec-B

Thanks for the offer anyways...

I prefer electronic boost controllers, but a manual one works just fine for most people.

With a manual boost controller, do NOT get just a bleeder valve type from Home Depot or anything, spend a little extra cash and get a ball/spring controller. The ball/spring controller will keep any pressure from entering the actuator or wastegate (whichever you have) until the desired boost level is achieved. A downside with a MBC is that you either have to have it under the hood which is a bitch in case you want to crank up the boost for a stoplight run, or run it with extended tubing into the cockipit. With this extra line, lag is "slightly" increased, but probably not enough to tell significantly.

As for electronic ones, if you have the money they are perfect. I have the Blitz Dual Solenoid boost controller and it has all the features (and more) that I need. The one I use the most is the GAIN setting and the Preset levels that they have. The GAIN setting is a ratio from 1-100 that you set. If you set it at 50 (or 50%), the wastegate will open halfway. If the GAIN ratio is at 90, the wastegate is 90% shut and held there. This allows for really fast spool up and a rise in pressure but can lead to overboosting. If you have the gain setting at 15, the wastgate will be 85% open and you'll have more lag, but more of a consitant boosting.

Another great thing about electronic boost controllers is that you have "x" amount of presets. First preset may be at 10psi, 2nd is at 12, 3rd is at 15 and so on. Perfect in case you line up with some punk at a stop light. I could go on and on, but I'm sure you get the idea.

Get whatever your budget fits, they will both raise boost which is all that matters.
