Default man... what's wrong? limp mode?

Okay, so i got the turbo on today finally ready to go, the car starts fine and idle's fine, but when i try and drive her, i get little backfires and no power, defiently enough power to get around town, but it's not normal - the higher i rev the more i get backfires, they aren't loud but they are loud enough... what could be causeing this?

If i try to pull ecu codes - do it do that before the car is running or while the car is running? (i'm getting a check engine light but it could just be the o2)

I'm running a open downpipe right now (i don't want to put the exhaust on until the car runs normal)

basically, i'm ready to give up, take everything off - sell everything and go back to stock... i'm giving myself until new years - if it's not running by then, i'm done.

here is what i have:

.48 exhaust t3
FMU Vortech
check valves on the MAP
open exhaust (no O2 sensor)

any ideas would be appreciated!

your setup needs to have an 02 Sensor or be able to run on open loop in order for the computer to not put you in limp mode, even in OBD1. Put the full exhaust back on to readjust the settings, and drive the car normally. It will run more smoothly for now w/o the pops and burbles w/ the exhaust on for now. Check all vaccum leaks. etc....

so basically, i won't be able to tell if this thing is going to run okay until i pay a shop 200$+ for a custom downpipe - so i can get an O2 sensor keeping the ECU out of Limp?

yes no? i thought a car would run fine without the o2 - my friend was stupid and took the cat off of his GSR, which was effectively taking both o2's off... and it ran fine - gas miliage was a little worse, but it didn't have the problems i'm having

???

What is the code number? What is it giving you?. THere's other reasons...let's try and narrow it down....

you mean the ECU code - i'll go pull that right now, i'm just not sure how - do i turn the key and connect the outside pins on the connector and wait for beeps of the check engine light - or do i need to turn the car on then use a paper clip on the connector and look for blinks of the check engine light?

let me knwo and i'll go out this second and get them

if its OBD1, you jump the connector with whatever, paper clip, wire, and turn the car to the on position, not started, and it should blink the codes on your cluster.

OBD0, you jump the connector and look at the ecu, it has a little red bulb in it.

Okay, so i went to check the ecu codes after reading a FAQ on how to do it.

This is what I got - the Check Engine light doesn't blink at all (stays illuninated) BUT the SRS light blinks non stop short blinks - it got to like 35 before i stopped counting... so any ideas?

that is not a good sign. The constant check engine is most of the time a bad ecu. I am not sure about that SRS light blinking. Never had that problem.

so it could be a bad ECU? the only way to check that is to find another one right? ugh... anyone else think it's a bad ECU before i start searching all over New England for one?

is it always in limp mode no matter what. You don't even drive the car and the check engine light pops right up and gives you problems right away?

i'm going to give it until tuesday to try and figure this out - then i'm taking everythign apart and selling everything on ebay - i really don't want to give up on this i've put so much of my energy into this...

about 20 seconds into driving the car i get the check engine light

If i jump the ECU - the check engine light stays on instead of blinking
