making IC pipes for first time...let the fun begin
ok, last time I posted I was trying to drop the motor in... so far that worked
now here's where I'm at...
it's a decent upgrade from my old drag 3 kit IC
and now it's time to make some pipes... I never welded before other then to practice on scrap without argon.
any tips on routing the pipe?
wish me luck!

Hahaha. Im making my ic piping now to. Those manifolds are really made for a back dour intercooler. If you point the compressor housing down and put a 90 degree bent pipe on it. The pipe is like two inches off the ground. Good luck.

On my crx, I had good luck pointing the compressor housing straight up, coming directly off with a 90, and down through the "intake hole" on the drivers side. Other than that you should be fine. You may need to get a 90 mandrel bend though. Those U bends might stick up too far if you do a 90 with them, but try it and see what it's gonna look like. Good luck.

Does it really makes a difference in Welding the pipes VS using Silicone couplers to join them?
I didnt weld a single pipe on my setup..Everything is joined with Couplers and T bolt clamps.

it's less things to blow apart under boost, and looks cleaner. I welded a few (not myself but a friend of mine) pieces on mine, and coupled the rest, it's not the prettiest but it's sealed and hasn't blown apart yet after about a 9 months on 10 lbs
if you use couplers just make sure to get a bead on the end of the piping for the clamps to grip

Re: (LostSolVTEC)
hmm, maybe I should clock the compressor up like the white car B18OnTop posted... it might not work for me because I have P/S in the way, but thats a good idea.
I'm gonna try to only use these U bends for better flow then a 90deg. I'm sure once I get started I'll be just trying to get the pipes ran however they fit
I'll be using 4 couplers... turbo/pipe, pipe/IC, IC/pipe, pipe/TB
does anyone worry about inside pipe rust getting into the motor with these mild steel pieces?

Re: (turbosi03)
ok guys, I need some help finishing misc crap on the engine install... figured I'll post it here instead of making a new thread...
I have two 14pin big *** connectors left over after pluging everything in... what are they and where do they go? they are under the intake mani off the main harness. it says they are junction connectors in the helms...??
I'm having a hard time getting the clutch slave cylinder back on the tranny.. I tried to press the piston in but it doesnt move, then I tried to bleed the fluid and it still doesnt move. in fact when I loosened the bleed screw it just dripped out, even if I pulled the screw off completely... what am I missing? I need to push the piston in to get the two bolts that hold it onto the tranny to line up.
soon as I figure these things out I can start welding
please help!

$$$$!!! Man, those T-Bolt clamps are $3 each, and silicone coupling is about $8 for a 3" section...I've got 6 welds on my charge pipe and I'm using a total of 5 couplings from compressor to throttle body. I couldn't imagine having to buy 6 more coupler setups @ about $14 each!

Re: (DaX)
Turbosi,
I hope your not trying to Mig Mild Steel with 100% Argon. It will not work, 100% Argon is for Alum. You need 75% 25% mix to do mild.
If you need more help on this post in the Weld/Fab forum.

Re: (Speed-Factor)
thanks speed factor, yeah I have a tank with 75/25 mix... I'm sure you'll see me in the welding forum trying to get help with getting weld buggers out of my pipes, lol.
so can anyone help me with these two questions? (can't believe I'm quoting myself)

I used:
4 90's
1 45
1 180
and 2 sections of straight pipe
1 90 off the turbo, a straight section, a 180 to the driver side of the IC, a 90 off the passenger side of the IC, a 90 to shoot it up through the hole for the intake, a 90 to point it towards the TB, then a straight piece and a 45 to connect it to the TB...all joined with HD couplers y0

Re: (BauleyCivic)
the slave cylinder piston should be somewhat easy to push right in by hand. thats pretty weird for it to not go in unless its not lined up straight while pushing. I've never had a problem with it at all on any of my friends cars. pipes look good man hopefully i'll see that beast in action at NE dragway

Re: (Dangger)
its a 2k si with original b16a2 motor (well not exactly original ). I have an OBD1 P72 ecu... the distributer is all connected now.
the clutch slave cylinder is rusted stiff so I just bought a new one from the local parts store for $18... honda wanted $88! so this will be the ONLY part on my car that's not OEM or performance upgrade...
I have all the info of my setup on the cardomain link in my sig.

hey danger your name makes me worried... do I know you? hehe, nah I'll be glad to catch up with you sometime but as for the start up party, I'm keeping it to just close friends... maybe some hot chicks for added pressure, and since I'm going through a divorce

Re: (turbosi03)
Damn Dustin. We have been talking for a couple years now, no? I have seen everything from your JG build, to your Comptech build, to your local shop build, to your stock setup and now this. This is definitely the best of them all. I'm trying hard to get mine done before Daytona. Might have to finish it in the parking lot in Daytona, lol Props for the time, dedication and work you have put into this build

yeah I fixed those poblems, I think just about all the major challanges are out of the way, I only have some little stuf to finish like run vacum lines, install axles, etc... and I'm ready to start her up!!
just waiting on some silicon from flamenco-T
I had theshodan (who I got the turbo from) send out the turbo and mani for coating.

hehe.. didn't mean to come off soo shady.... I've been lurking and absorbing as much info on tech as i can. I love this stuff. I use to be mostly electrical, being a Computer engineer and all, but I've grown to love and appreciate the mechanical side alot more and been willing and eager to learn. That's why I would love to be around or lend a helping hand if anyone needs it. "Dangger" doesn't mean "unsafe" or anything. it's actually a nick name, since my last name is Dang. Dang-Gerrrrr is how it's pronounced
No worries. i can understand your point in keeping thing low key. Quality Vs Quantity. I've mostly been in the http://www.team-integra.net and we have a great local scene there. HT is fantastic with more technical info though =] I'm getting overshocked by knowledge.
well... i look forward to your updates on this project
