Default Main bearing clearance calculation confusion??

Alright i must be missing something? Using the formula ...

(Inside bearing journal - Outside diameter crank journal) - (2x Bearing Thickness)

One of my examples for my measurements using the thickest blue bearing (.0793"-.0791")

(2.329 - 2.1648) - ( 2 x .0793) = .0056"

honda spec = .0009-.0017

WHAT IS GOING ON??? my clearance is too much! I have checked and rechecked my measurements and i know the crank is in good condition so i am thinking i am doing something wrong?

thanks

This is the reason I don't use Honda bearing...if the plasti-gauge reads .0015, roll with it. I've build over twenty with .0010-.0015 and they are still living today.

Are you implying to use the marked letters "CCDCC" to clearance this engine? I dont want to be in the position of buying bearings more then once. I want to use oem bearings and this math should be accurate.

Unfortunately i don't have the old bearings as a reference

Measuring with a ball mic?

Measure again... Ive nevedr had any issue with my measurements vs clearance after using them.

Are you sure the housing ID is 2.329"? I think the spec is 2.3228"-2.3237".

Well i re did my measurements today and came out with 2.3252" and based on my main journals this leaves me with only .0018-.0019" of clearance using the blue bearing. I am trying to wrap my head around why i am using the thickest bearing. I recall the previous owner polishing the crankshaft and i did during this build. I am thinking this is why i am using honda blue bearings.

You're housing bore is too big. It should measure 2.3228"-2.3237", and that's directly contributing to looser bearing clearance. Not to mention it loosens the crush on the bearing and could cause it to spin.

You need to have the block align honed to fix it.

How would the main bore end up being too big in the first place? I don't want to end up having poor bearing crush! This makes me want to measure it yet AGAIN to double check, although this will be my 4th time.

Thanks to eg1834 i didn't torque the mains down when i was checking the bore diameter. I am going to do that tomorrow and hopefully get some more reasonable numbers!

For serious?

Words of advice, read your shop manual carefully. Multiple times. Triple check everything.
