Default LsVtec Cutting out when Vtec engages...HELP.....

Ok here is the deal, I have a lsvtec, head has sk2 valve train ferrea valves 1mm oversized, sk2 stg2 turbo cams, when I drive around it is like my valves are way out of adjustment and when I get up to 5k(where I set vtec) the motor like hits a rev limiter. I am wondering if it is my cams not wanting to switch? or what it could be, I heard plug wires and dizzy, so I got new ones and still no change. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated, oh and also the whole motor is built for a turbo setup and I am running it NA for a few to get it broken in, it has 1200mi on it. If anyone has ever had this happen or know whats going on, I really need some help here!!!!

try moving the Vtec lower or higher, and if it still does it at a different RPM then its either oil pressure or the ECU

do a compression and a leakdown test.

i had the same problem and i decided to build a different motor. Not one person on honda-tech was able to help me out. The most important thing is for you to check your oil pressure.

i thought my problem was also timing. but if only jumped one tooth you would still have vtec. you have low oil pressure.

no, if it was low oil pressure it wouldnt hit vtec

to me it sounds like you need to get it tuned

with my built c5 block vtec was the same till i got the fueling right and the crossover at the proper rpm

^reading compression>you

LOL check your bearings your not hitting vtec because of low oil pressure. And if you want to keep it simple by an oil pressure gauge.

and spellin owns your ***....(its spelled comprehension)

and his vtec is engaging or else why would it hit the "rev limiter" at the set point

the fact is that he prob has too much fuel and or too low of a vtec engagement point for it to run properly......!!!!!!!

take it to get tuned or atleast throw a wideband on it and see what your a/f is at that given point..

again reading>you

he says it feels like a rev limiter. Its not a rev limiter its just that vtec tries to engage but since there isnt enough oil pressure it doesnt. i had the same problem i wasted 300 on a tuner and dyno time in 3 different ocassions.

but who knows i could be wrong.
on my car when we put it on the dyno and vtec was supposed to engage it went from 170whp at 5400 to 90whp at 5500rpm when vtec was supposed to engage.

im speaking from personal experience, if vtec is set at 5100 rpm and the oil pressure isnt there to engage it, all it would do is not engage and keep on the low cam untill it dies out, no rev limit type of symptoms

Yea oil pressure is fine. no leaks, and I am positive it is/was my ECU/Wiring. Now I have to go through my wiring and find out where it is burnt. My ECU is all fucked, looks like it was on fire near a resistor near the plugs. think it may have hit some type of vtec wire in the board, no check engine codes though....Oh well new board is needed if anyone has one, and some time going through the wiring...let me know if anyone has a p28.....PLEASE!!!!!

Id love to, but no one around here tunes, or should I say is a profesional. So its not oil pressure, and you dont think its ecu being burnt, what could it be, Im up for any suggestions. I just want to get it running to take it to get tuned, anyone know a good place near Spokane, WA? Or a good tuner close by? Please any more help would be nice, and much appreciated!!!!!!!

NO OIL PRESSURE SYMPTOMS WILL EVER CAUSE THE MOTOR TO ACT LIKE IT HAS A REV-LIMITER

Find a tuner here : https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1347699
