LSD people read please
Since I'm swapping to manual within the next few months, and the tranny still isen't in the car yet I wanted to know about the benifits of an LSD. I drive me car daily (normaly driving) and goto the track once a month about (drag). I don't do autocross.
Would spending $900 be worth it for a quaife in my situation? I'm really worried about the traction problem I will have once I convert to stick. Will an LSD really help out launching at the track? Or is that more geared toward auto-x.

Type R LSD are for cornering, Quiafe handle both launching and cornering very well. If you are going to invest your money into a LSD, make sure its a Quiafe. They make a dramatic difference if you are pushing substantial power. After using a JDM Si-RII tranny for a few months while boosted with the optional factory LSD (ie Type R LSD), it wasnt even a contest which one came out in my opinion (Quiafe). I have been happy with the Quiafe that I ran in my older b16a tranny, and using another in my current b16a tranny.

i dont want to hi-jack this thread, but how hard is it to install an LSD? i've never been inside of my tranny; only did the clutch swap myself. is it very involved? how much would a tranny shop charge?

Im preety sure the hardest part to a lsd install is droping the trans like any clutch/flywheel install, then its just wether or not you have the proper tools to complete the job. What I would do is drop the trans yourself and then just take it to a shop and have them do it. I would think doing it that way will run you no more then $300. Im not sure but I think a press is needed to complete the job.

i would say it goes something like this
cusco/quaife/kazz are all about equal
then you have the ITR lsd and then
something like a POS phantom grip which isnt even worth .02

The Kazz and Cusco are clutch type diffs. They require replacing the clutch internally, much the same with your transmission. I have heard of Kazz failing under high horsepower and torque. The quiafe is a mechanical LSD, with no clutch to replace. IMO its simplier, its patented and the best for straight line.
