Icon2 Ls build questions

What's up guys. I own a 95 ls vtec turbo acura integra. I have a t3 t4 56 trim turbo on 10 psi making 309 to the wheels. I think my turbo seal is going bad because it is smoking on deceleration and I have some shaft play. Well I was thinking about just getting a whole new turbo instead of rebuilding this one. The thing is if I do that I feel like I'll have to build the bottom end to be able to handle the power, because right now my redline is 7400 and it is still trying to make power. Honestly I'd love to have over 400 wheel but from what I know a stock ls bottom end can't handle all that. It was rebuilt before boost but it was rebuilt with oem parts, not upgraded parts. So I was wandering what you guys suggest as far as building it to handle over 400 wheel. Thanks everyone!

There are wide range of turbos for you to choose from for your goals.

If you do build the bottom end, and seek 400 whp, I would suggest buying a turbo capable of a bit more than 400 whp so that you have room to grow.

There is the precision 5252 for about $650
The Reaper for about $900
And if you have the money for ball bearing the GT3076R for about $1400

There are other choices, just wanted to throw a few out there for you.

As far as the motor goes, A healthy stock bottom end will hold 400 whp with a good tune, but only for so long. It's inevitible that eventually it will break with that kind of power, usually sooner than later.

For 400+ whp with longevity in mind, you should do a bottom end rebuild with forged rods and pistons. The stock cylinder sleeves can easily handle 400 - 450 whp but not more than about 450 to be safe. A safe whp on pump gas is in the 400- 450 whp range as well, and all of the turbo's I suggested will be in the sweet spot for 400 - 450 whp.

Just a basic bottom end rebuild, new oem bearings, head gasket and ARP head studs, with forged rods and pistons. You can choose just about any forged rod/piston combo, usually you can find a pretty good deal on a combo set like eagle rods/ JE/SRP pistons for about $800.

Ideal compression ratio would be about 9:1 or even better 9.5:1.

Then you can also rev that motor a bit more than 7400 rpm as well.

I have a ram horn manifold with the turbo on the left side. (if you're looking at the motor from the front) So I can't go too big because it wont fit. But yea I will look into all the turbos and see what there hp rating is and get whichever one is around maybe 500. If I can get 400 I'll be happy there. I already ran a 12.4 with it the way it is, but my gears are so short because of my redline. That's my main thing, if I can make my redline at least 8500 I know it'll make good power because on the dyno graph it is still trying to make power at redline. I'll see if I can find a good combo set of forged rods and pistons and check into some other things as well. Thanks for the feedback!

YW.....................as far as turbo choice goes, if 400 whp is your happy spot, you may want to just go with a healthy sized t3/t4.

Precision 6031 or garret 60 trim t3/t4E

Maybe shodan should chime in on this, he is a real turbo expert, if he doesnt chime in, you may want to try to send him a pm.

I have the .60 .63 on it now and I think I may just get the turbo rebuilt and keep it on there.
