Low Oil Pressure at Idle
B18C1
T3-T40E
Inline Pro Mani
-4AN feed (4 feet), -10AN return (10 inches)
Tap from stock oil pressure sending sensor
Goes to 2 T's on the firewall which has input, output, stock pressure sensor, defi guage pressure sensor
Helms says idle is 800-900 RPMs.
It also says that this should be the pressures:
Idle - 70 Kpa
3000 RPM - 300 Kpa
I get 300 at about 3200-3400 RPM depending on how hot the engine is (after its warmed up).
Now at idle, when the engine is how, it shots down to like 10-20 Kpa (thats about 2.5 psi). So I raised my idle to about 1100 and even then it dips from 65-50 Kpa.
Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Check your oil level, and maybe you should use some heaver weight oil, and if you get such low oil pressure your warning like should come on to, if it doesn't maybe the gauge is bad. Just for reference, my JDM GSR never goes below 20psi, today I drove it for 40min non stop in the 110F arizona heat and at idle it was at about 25psi.

I cant immagine how you have 25 psi at idle if you have a stock like idle (800-900 RPM). Check your sensor maybe? I got those figures out of the Helms manual and the helms doesnt lie.
I was going about 90 for 10 minutes and the pressure dropped to 275-300 Kpa at that speed (4500 RPM's or so).

Re: Low Oil Pressure at Idle (integra-modder)
My idle is at 900-1000rpm, but there are times when its at 700rpm and its still above 20psi, and I know it's right cuz I hooked it up and it's a Dafi guage not an Autometer or some thing from AutoZone. The relief valve maybe stuck open, that would make for the low psi, but you do have 50psi at 3000rpm. Only other thing thats inline before the oil pump and the valve is the pick up, maybe you have clogged pick up, maybe a dented oil pan.

That is quite normal. I run about 20 psi at idle once it's all good and warmed up and it never goes below about 17. When the car is cold and when I'm giving it gas I'm up to about 75-80 psi. BTW my oil pressure gauge is hooked up at the stock oil sensor location.

mine is hoooked up to an oil plate sandwiches in between the filter....
i've seen mine get to close to ZERO during idle!! (around 500 rpms straangly enough )

Re: Low Oil Pressure at Idle (integra-modder)
your pressure reading depends on the size of line and how its tapped to the gauge, on mine i have a -3 feed then t -d to my turbo and then gauge all -3 line, my gauge is feed with a -3 line and it reads a little lower with the -3 line comparred to say the tubing they give you with it, and i know there is nothing wrong with my motor cus it was built by earl and i used all new pecies, its just the size of line to the gauge.

Can anyone explain this phenominon? Why do some engines produce more oil pressure than others?
A -4AN line is typically used for oil feed, at least as far as I know. So I dont know what to check otherwise. I guess the only other option is to buy a filter sandwich plate and get my feed off of that and put the oil sensor into the block.

Re: Low Oil Pressure at Idle (JDMCRX)
They are defi guages....at relative cold start up, 80 degrees outside, it jumps for around 350-400 Kpa at about 1800 RPM (cold idle). As the engine warms up and the rpms fall, it goes to the 150 Kpa area and then once fully warm it falls to the 70-50 Kpa area.

Re: Low Oil Pressure at Idle (integra-modder)
same thing happened to me, turned out GE who assembled my block did an honest thing and forgot my oil squirters so i had almost no pressure at idle. very bad mistake but could happen to anyone i guess...
look for the obvious!

Re: Low Oil Pressure at Idle (GruvyTune)
Well the car was running fine stock, with no oil light coming on. Cant immagine what could be causing it to go down like that....

68k miles on a stock motor, which was never taken apart</TD></TR></TABLE>
are you stock? what guage and where is the sensor located?

Re: Low Oil Pressure at Idle (Turbocivic94)
I have a magnetic oil drain plug, and when I change the oil i get very very fine stuff (maybe .5 mm in length or so)

ya it should not be big, try taking ur pan off and see if u see more stuff in there. I been through it so I know. Hopefully that's not the problem

Re: Low Oil Pressure at Idle (Turbocivic94)
In the last week my oil pressure gauges has a hard time going over 25 psi. Usually sits at 0 or lower. No light or anything, Im pretty sure my gauges is broken, otherwise my car would have blown up by now. May just wanna try another gauge.

Re: Low Oil Pressure at Idle (95GSRTT)
ur car wont blow up cause ur pump is still working, if u have vtec motor u will not get vtec cause there is no oil pressure.
