Default Lets clear this up - spark plug gap when boosting

Alright - I thought when boosting, the spark plug gap should be less than factory gap specs; however, I was told by an instructor that it should be more. I believe for my prelude the gap specs are .039-.044..............

What would be sufficient gap for boosting 10-12psi with an sc6152e?.....

Im just trying to get this theory down.......

you want smaller gap as to not blow out the spark. average gap seems to be ~.030

What was his reason behind why they should be gapped more than stock specs?

Agreed, give the guy the benefit of the doubt. Information is only as good as it was understood right?

I'm just suprised that someone teaching others for money wouldn't know more about an internal combustion engine, assuming that's what he's teaching? As for a reasoning, increased cylinder pressure makes it harder for the ignition system to jump the gap on the spark plug, requiring a smaller gap for the spark to jump.

that instructor needs to be corrected, then told to stick to brakes.

Hey stop dissin. The school is great - all instructors have like 20+ years of experience. He's human - he teaches brakes for christs sake. And he's more of a "muscle car" guy. He told me himself he doesn't know much - he said " I would think to increase the gap on a forced induction vehicle."

Go somewhere else to diss and stop post whoring

Its not like we were arguing about this, it was just a simple statement that I picked up in a conversation. He's also old school - don't diss my people

my here is what i gapped to

112oct. gas w/ NGK-8's

.026 7psi-15psi
.024 20psi-22psi
.022 24.5-25

Running a .039 gap will have your car sounding like a pop corn machine underboost

I don't think People are trying to diss your instructor or school. However, If the instructors at your school can't say, and I quote. "I'M NOT SURE, LEMME FIND OUT FOR YOU" You need to consider going to a new school!!!!!! I've taught adult education for more than 6 years, and the first rule of being a facilitator (old or new school0 is letting your students know when you dont know!!!

Remember YOU ARE PAYING FOR THIS CLASS/SCHOOL!!! demand to get your money's worth!!!!!

I tried to get a part time job teaching Auto classes at the local community college - pretty sweet laid back gig, $20/hr and you can take one free class a semester. All the part time guys do is mind the children during shop time, and give basic wrenching advice... sounded like fun.

Well, apparently, you have to know somebody to get hired, and not all of them are as qualified as your ABS/braking instructor. Glad he told you he wasn't sure - there's no fault for not knowing everything, but there is for misleading someone by ASSuming you do.
