just went to the dyno.....got some question....pics inside!!!
Well over the last week and a half I have had the car on jackstands, and let me tell you, it is a depressing sight to see her up in the air not running. Just brought a tear to my eye. I did all the work myself. all I have to say is putting a turbo is it not as easy as it looks. ESPECIALLY the oil pressure sending unit. It right above the oil filter and its not very easy to get to. That was the hardest part. But other than that it was all pretty straight forward.
Lets get down to business.
SETUP:
Greddy turbo kit - This might sound weird but I think its a 16g upgrade. I bought the oil fitting for a TDO4H-15g and it was to big. I called up stan, who by the way gets
from me, and ordered the TDO5H oil fitting and it worked fine. SO im not exactly sure what turbo im running. BTW, full boost doesnt come on till 4200 rpm.
Apexi N1 cat-back exhasut - Which actually got really quite after the install, sounds really good now.
Stock Cat in place - need to find someway to override the O2 sensor in the Cat.
VAFC Hack w/450 dsm's - Please no hack lectures. Hondata is next under the clutch upgrade.
I did have a couple questions.
1. what gear should I do the pulls in. the dyno man told me to do them in third. can anyone enlighten me on this.
2. How accurate is a wideband sniffer that you put in the tail pipe.
3. Im looking to upgrade my clutch. Which one would you guys recommend. Right now im looking at getting an ACT but just wanted some recommendations
Currently I am running 5 psi, afraid of blowing up the clutch to a bloody pulp and not being able to drive it period because it a liquid pulp from the clutch in the transmission. Please if you can evaluate my Dyno graphs and tell me if this is typical HP and TQ for just 5 lbs. I know that one of my biggest power robbers right now is the exhaust setup. That elbow that Greddy gives you the comes off the turbo absoluetely sucks. Even for just 5lbs it pulls like a striped *** ape. It is so much fun to drive now and its so much faster. I was expecting about a 50 hp increase. I love all this new found tourque in the engine to. TURBO is the way to go
Overall I am very pleased with the turbo upgrade and I was surprised on how much tunability the VAFC has. Its not Hondata but it gets my vote for budget management and being able to tune it in your garage if necessary
I want to think all the H-T members for putting up threads that carry lots of information. alot of the research was done right here on this website.
I am going to try and get pics up of the car. My digi's battery just died on me.
Here ya go. The best run says 155.9 HP 142.3 TQ

Please ignore the red line as this run happend after we blew off a charge pipe and didnt realize it. fucked up everything. good thing it didnt blowup anything. the green and blue line were the best a/f we could get before the pipe blew off.

3rd or 4th gear are fine...you want the car to have a longer range of gear so that the graph is more detailed(wider) and also the gear creates more of a load on the engine...making the spool quicker and tunes the car for the gear in which it will make the most boost while still accellerating(not 5th cruising gear)
2) I dont know....never tried it. I know LM-1 sells one...It should be pretty damn accurate...just way late on the readings as the exhaust travels thru all of the pipes before getting there..and you also have to think about turblence in the exhaust mixing the o2 content of the exhaust... I dunno.
3) looks like you may be a little low on power...but then again I wouldn't know. Looks like your fuel curve under boost needs work...and maybe by smoothign it out you'll pick up some power across the power band.
good luck

5 psi 5000 feet above the sea level....isn't very much then. Yeah I guess you're doing alright.
Im off like a dress on prom night. good night ladies.

Uh, you say dont pay attention to the red line and im guessing because its so damn lean down low, well it just so happens to be the same dyno run (10) as u made the most power. Which means a charge pipe didnt blow off...... If it did, you wouldnt have made near the same hp as the other runs simply because you wouldnt be boosting anything....

You want the engine and tranny to be on about a 1:1 ratio. Thats why its run in third or fourth or whatever gear works best.
Oh yea and
on the Turboed D16Y8
Ill have one..... someday.

what kind of flange is on that manifold?
is it the same as a garrett T25 flange?
just curious.
do pulls in 3rd gear.
the exhaust gas analyzers that most dyno operators use are highly accurate but are a little late in regards to the a/f ratio to rpm plot.
as far as the O2 sensor just wait til you get hondata, that'll take care of that. for now you could get an OBD1 ecu and conversion harness that way when you do go hondata you'll be all set.

Im not exactly sure what happened that run but all of the a/f up until that run were really good. I didnt even change anything in the VAFC and that run was the run we ran so lean. I believe it was after that run we blew off the charge pipe. I need to get those t-bolt clamps next time
The flange is the same on the turbo and the manifold. It doesnt make sense. I think when I got it rebuilt the upgraded something or changed something without me knowing.
