Just in Time!
well...
since i have been so busy with school and basketball practice during the day... i decided to have my mechanic replace the waterpump, belts, and tensioner. i got the parts at the dealer for $235 (with 10% discount). he was only gonna charge me $200 for labor, which is not bad. i figure i'd save myself the drama and continue on with my daily routines... and not have to spend any money on rental cars before i can actually get to my car on the weekend and work on it. $435 spent on replacing those parts seemed worth it. piece of mind = priceless.
the waterpump bearing was shot. it made rattlin noises when i started my car and continued throughout. i took the waterpump in my hand and gave the bearing a good spin. sounded like a baseball card clipped to a bicycle wheel. the timing belt was jacked. it had a little rip halfway across the width of the belt. any longer and the belt would have completely snapped. im glad i caught it just in time. i was drivin my car with the little tickin sounds and little coolant leak for too long... lucky i decided to have it checked just in time.
moral of the story is: DONT NEGLECT TUNEUPS.
EDIT:
just kiddin, guys. i did it myself. i was waiting to get flamed on.
took me 5 hours... but i did it. i broke the pulley and i had to take a trip out to the parts store and get me a another pulley. didnt expect that to happen, but it was a bitch to take off. after all these scratches... i think ill have a friend help me next time. i got fingerprints all over my manual, too.
