Damn...Look at the combustion chamber on the head...and how small the stroke looks.
Plus...are the cams held in with a piece that bolts to the head?

actually they were battling against BMW who were reportedly make 1470 hp from a 1.5 as well
Top Fuel motors are making 1000 hp per liter presumably since they have no dyno that can measure that much

See, this is how you spool 2 huge turbines...Short Stroke, Lots of RPM...A built b16b will be perfect with a T66 as a daily driver...Even better if you add a deckplate and lengthen the rods, make a custom piston with a Huge Top Ring Land and Rev to 12k around town if you like...

That motor I beleive was banned from race use cause it was said to be humanly incapable of controlling for it's insane HP even by a well experienced driver. It was also said they were known to have made as much as 1500 HP. About 400 HP per litre.

The valve train is gear driven. At 15,000 RPM, it's kinda hard for a timing belt to stay together. High RPM operation is also why the stroke is so short.
I have some estimated specs out of a 1988 Honda Formula 1 1.5L V-6. This was after all the restrictions took place.
Bore: 3.11"
Stroke: 2"
Rod Length: 3.6"
Combustion chamber: Dual plug pent-roof
Compression: 9.4:1
Intake valves: 1.25"
Exhaust valves: 1.15"
Cam duration: I/E 240 deg. @ .050" lift
Cam lift: 0.400"
Air-to-Water intercooler
Max boost: 33.6 PSI (2.5 bar)
Rated: 685 HP @ 12500 RPM and 313 lb-ft TQ
This all came out of my engine modeling software library.
