Jim Fab Bars mounting question.
I got a set of the jim fab bars and when I went to mount the cross bar I found that two of the nuts that should be welded in on the sub frame are missing. I was going to tap the holes and use a larger bolt to bolt the car up. My question is this... Once I bolt the bar up can I then weld it to the sub frame for added security and strength? I was looking at it last night and it appears that the only thing that needs to pivot is the two bars that attach to the LCA.
You want to weld the brackets that go where the tow hooks used to be? Can you see that it would ever get in the way? You shouldn't have to take anything through there so it should be fine to weld them in solid.
Yes I would like to bolt them where the tow hooks use to be then weld them since two of the holes are missing the nuts behind them. The person who had the car before had z10's on it and must have broken the welds off the nuts. I just do not feel safe taping that metal and having the bar held in with a bolt. So I figured if I welded it that would make it safer, but was not sure if that bar needed to be able to flex at all.
Also does anyone know how to set the preload on the tracion bars? I did a search and everyone is saying start them off at Zero preload then adjust them from there. How do you know how much to adjust them to? Is there such a thing as to much preload?
