Default Integrated dump tube cracking

For those of you with WG dump tubes integragted back into the DP have you had any issues with cracking?

Would some sort of bellows or flex joint be required?

I have a dumptube on my setup that is welded to the downpipe but it isnt a recirculating setup.I have seen alot of people use flex sections on them to avoid cracking ?

i run a closed loop dump.....no cracking yet....when i first put it on...one of the screws backed out after a day on the WG...i used some high temp loctite...now its been good for months.....

if i was to redo it...i would use a flex section

what metal is ur DP....is the dump tube the same metal....with the same filler....because...than could cause some problems

here is a pic of my closed loop system....i also had it HPC coated...made a big difference in my under hood temps...even some on my IAT's

lemma know about the DP and dump tube

The DP and dump are 304 stainless.

I am not sure if I can get a bellows small enough to fit, as it is only about 3" from WG to DP.

How has the gloss finish held up on the HPC?

You don't want to dump back-in to the downpipe that high up."lucidvtec" has it right on his blending back in farther down. His has room for a flex if he chose to.

This is mine. No creep, or hassel. u dont need to go way low on them. Ive seen alot of drag setups that do the same as the guy above wanted. long recirculated dumps ar a h-t bandwagon

I agree NJIN... space is limited though.

I could route an open DP but it would be complicated and... well... open.

Nice ride.An old friend had a few old spiders.Fun little cars.It had open webbers that made more noise than the exhaust.

here is mine has been ok for 2 years now, waste gate dumping back into the down pipe close to the turbo outlet is bad, causes to mch turblance, the first few inches of the downpipe is the most critical for power.

My dumptube kept cracking, it was a thinner material metal and a mig welded initially. That cracked as well, so I had a 304 SS one TIG'd up. That took longer to crack. (its open loop btw) I finally realized that its viberating a TON so I tig'd a gusset up to the flange by the wastegate so hopefully that'll keep it from cracking again... We'll see...

ht-bandwagon.....wow....maybe you should go search...because i have seen some dyno plots of runnin open vs. closed and no dump tube.....i say at least 12" away from the turbo and make sure it's not a 90 goin into the DP...gradually bring it in

Thanks... I was running a TO4 S trim on a .58 P trim tangential divided making 240WHP. I recently upgraded to a new EL manifold and a GT3071R with the GT 3" conical turbine housing, what a difference!

I have not re-tuned yet as I have a couple exhaust leaks and the DP issue to deal with though I am hoping to get ~350WHP with much better spool and transient response. The car is relatively light at 2500lbs and is street driven.

Thanks for all the input and feedback.

Only 5 years? Jeesh I was looking for something long term!

Do you know what material your DP and dump are made of?

Both are T304 stainless, 1018CR flanges all tig welded with stainless alloy rod. I did the design and fab work, had the welder at work tig it for me.

I actually made the turbo and wg flanges myself, I cut them out of solid pieces of 3/8" 1018CR , back in 2000-2001 it was hard to find turbo flanges, now it's very easy.

Here is how we solved it... with a double slip joint.

Thanks for all the input.
