Integra Type R on nitrous questions..........
Allright I have a friend that has a 97 ITR. He has the normal bolt ons, i/h/e. We have also just installed a nitrous wet kit. Now we have some richer fuel jets in the car, to be conservative until we can tune it properly on the dyno, but all my experience with nitrous has been on OBD 1 cars. Obviously the general rule of thumb is 2 degrees retard every 50 shot of nitrous. Now my friend and I plan on running a 100 shot of nitrous, and considering the compression, and timing curve the ITR ecu's have I would feel safer if we could back the timing out about 4 degrees. Unfortunately from what I have heard if we drop 4 degrees out of the dizzy the ECU will automatically adjust the timing back to normal. Is this true? I just dont have any experience with OBD2 cars, if someone wouldnt mind giving me some answers here on how to drop the timing out without going to OBD1 (if we even can). Thanks.
it shouldnt kick back in. drop it with an aftermarket unit though. not with the dist. 4 degrees IMHO is a little exessive. ive ran 100 shot on mine with like 2 degree retard. if even that.
why not at the dizzy? Obviously something like a Hondata S200 with nitrous option, or an MSD digital 6 with nitrous retard would be optimal, but currently he doesnt have the cash flow right now.
becuase when you retard at the dist then your retarded all the time instead of only on the spray. youll find out youll make more power NA on like 18-19degree base timing. if you run 12degrees base timing like you want to all the time, the car will run like ****. if he cant afford to do it right, tell him not to do it. or do a lower shot so he doesnt need to retard the timing.

If you are adjusting your timing correctly (jumping the connector)? I don't see why you couldn't retard the 4 degrees without the ecu changing it back.
But like itr206 said, it'd be better to have an msd or hondata or something to adjust for the timing on nitrous.

yes I know that if I drop 4 degrees out of the dizzy that it will be all the time. THat is something we have already thought of I just wanted to make sure there wasnt another reason. Thanks.
