Default Integra OVERHEATING problem

Hey guys,

I have a major overheating problem.

I boosted my car and got it tuned and everything but now im having an overheating problem, i changed the thermostat 170F but didnt fix the problem.

Wired my fan to ignition but that didnt help either.

I have a mishimoto half rad so im thinking maybe the fan isnt strong enough?
Maybe the water pump? if so whats the symtoms?

No smoke coming out of exhaust so eliminate the headgasket.

Any ideas?

Thanks

is your radiator dual core? have you considered running 2 slim fans?

hows your coolant level?

yea its dual core, my coolant level is full. my next plan is to run 2 slim fans. should i run them both by ignition or keep the 2 by the thermostat?

why don't get a full core one since u are an integra.
Dump those brandless slim fans. Only fans which i ever used are SPAL ones. If not stock are the next best strongest.(But i think they won't fit in)

How big is the intercooler? Is it blocking the radiator? Have you drained your coolant/oil to see if there is any contamination? Did you bleed the coolant system 100%?

Does the car overheat while sitting at idle, and while driving?

He might have a manifold which prevents him from running a full radiator, so a Civic 1/2 rad would be the next choice I would assume.

I cant use a full rad, i have to use the half rad, my intercooler is big but my buddy is running the same one in his EF and he has no problem.

My rad/slim fan is Mishimoto

And my car doesnt overheat at idle just when i drive. at idle she goes to 1/3 but when i drive goes to 3/4 and up sometimes.

And i did bleed my coolant 100% we let it got through like 4 cycles and there was no more air pockets..

Maybe there could be a small leak in one of the coolant hoses? Because my idle is also acting up. Sometimes when i push the clutch in at a stop light she dies or just revs really low.

If there was a leak somewhere, you would have to continually fill up the radiator. Is this the case?

Also, which radiator cap are you using?

If you are overheating while driving (and the intercooler "blocking" the radiator is not the issue), sounds like your water pump may be going bad.

if its overheating while driving and NOT overheating at idle it cannot be a fan issue.

Have you checked if the polarity on the plug on fan is correct? The power and ground were switched on my fan right out of the box. This caused the fan to spin in the opposite direction and pulled hot air from the engine bay towards the radiator instead of pulling air through the radiator.

The fan is spinning the right way. its pulling air into the engine bay.
Im gonna have to keep a closer eye on my coolant level to see if it is going down at all.
so ill look into the coolant level and also look into the water pump issue

I just noticed my overflow bottle hose fell off into the bottle. could this be anything like the rad has been sucking in air? therefore making air pockets in my coolant system?

That could be the issue. I would re-install the tube, maybe put a small zip tie around it if it seems like it will come off again, bleed the coolant system again, and take a test ride!

anyone recommend using pure distilled water instead of antifreeze? i seem a royal purple purple ice bottle and it said that pure water and a couple ounces of this purple ice is the coldest coolant.

Can anyone confirm?

I have been running distilled water with Mishimoto Liquid Chill for the past 3 months with no issues. Usually, I will only have actual Honda coolant in there for the winter/below freezing times.

If the fan is working as it should be, the OP should not have any issues. I have a Mishimoto 12" fan set-up as a pusher fan on my 1/2 rad. and never overheated once. Even after sitting at idle for over 1 1/2 hours.

OP, were you able to check the fan? Any updates?

Should be black to ground, blue to positive if the fan is pulling.

This shouldn't be a stressful endeavor. We are here to help you.

Who tuned the car? What is the cruising AFR? I have seen that too lean of an AFR will cause excess heat. Do you have upgraded head studs as in ARPs? Is the lower hose hot at all when this is happening?

He has an Integra with a Civic half radiator. He would probably have to source a OE Civic fan shroud in order to do this.

OP, Check out this overheating troubleshoot guide.

try this, drive around with the front bumper off to see if it's an airflow issue. even if you have 2 slim fans but no shroud, you can still overheat.

if it doesn't overheat with the front bumper off, then you need to increase the airflow to your rad by making a shroud for your fan or cutting up your bumper to allow air in
