I'm finally boosted!
Hey guys i'm finally boosted! small wrx turbo, hf manifold, dsm 450's, uberdata, 1gdsm smic, 1gdsm bov, 2.5" dp, etc. I just have one question though. My car is overheating a lot once I start boosting. Also coolant is coming out of my overflow resivour. Anybody know why this is? My car never did this before until now. Could it be because i'm running my smic inside the engine bay sitting right near where the cai hole is? I know that is a shitty place to have it, but the guy i bought all of my stuff from had the charge pipes ran to that position. I will be getting a fmic and new charge pipes as soon as possible
.
.
i have no cooling problems with my turbo d16. I have the small greddy fmic. But i would definately start looking for a FMIC.
And congrats to being boosted. i just got my car done may 1st.

Thanx guys. I'm thinking it could be the headgasket too. I was boosting over 12psi the first few times I drove the car today because my wastegate actuator was adjusted all funny. I finally got it adjusted to only boost around 8psi. You guys think i probably popped it overboosting? What are some other sines of blown headgasket?

get a pressure gauge and do compression check. look for coolant in the oil, is your car smoking anything out of the exhaust?
are you running a basemap you made, or a premade .bin from someone else(just curious)

first of all change the thermostat
then make sure ur water pump is not dead prior to thinking is the headgasket
make sure u dont see any water leaks
after u change those 2, and still overheats...
afterwards, if still overheating, then check for the headgasket

i'm almost positive the thermostat is working. My lower radiator hose gets warm just like normal and i would have had this problem before boosting if that were the cause. It just happened yesterday...which is the first time boosting on my motor. Also the waterpump is brand new. I replaced that a few months ago. I'm almost positive its the headgasket like these guys are saying
If it pushes coolant into the over flow after a hard pull, its your HG. Another way to check, pop off the rad car, and watch for the tiny bubbles come to the top. They will be constant in a swirling pattern.

basically yeah. My overflow reservoir was empty last week when I filled up my radiator, and I just checked it and it's filled to the brim
I'm going to get a Honda OEM radiator cap and PRAY that solves the problem, otherwise I'm fucked (new HG).

alright now i'm really confused. I took my car out tonight to see how it was running. I started boosting to see if the temp would rise. At first i noticed no rise in temp at all so i got on it hard for a little bit and still no rise. Then i just romped on it for like the next 5 minutes. Still no temperature rise.... Then I decide to go home so i turn into my neighborhood and am driving slow and not boosting at all. All of a sudden my temp gauge just raises all the way to 3/4. WTF is up with this? Shouldn't it just be doing it while I'm boosting?
i had a similar problem with my b16 before. i thought it was the head gasket but it was the rad cap. try checking other components first like rad cap, radiator fan, water pump, thermostat. if everything checks out fine then its probably your hg.

was this when you first started boosting? The only reason it seems like it is most likely my headgasket is because this was the first day i'm boosting with the car. Do you think that if the radiator cap or fan or whatever else in the cooling system was messed up that it would have done it before i boosted? Or could boosting have made something like a faulty radiator cap worse?

Yeah. Flush and refill your coolant with 50/50 premixed, then properly bleed the system and put on an OEM Honda radiator cap. That's what I'll be doing.
