Default I/C end tank pipe sizing---need help !

I am doing a custom job here. I have a starion I/C. What people are telling me to do is chop off the original pipes flip the ic upside down and have new piping welded into the fatter part of the end tanks. That is easy enough to do. My question is what size piping should i have welded into the tanks. I was thinking 2.25 but i notice people running larger piping into it and smaller out (to the tb) because since the air is cooler wont it be more compressed? ---Is that statement backwards?
Anyways, i dont think I can go larger then 2.25 cause thats about the width of them.
Any advice would be helpful, thanks!
