How to properly Hone?
I'm in the process of Honing the cylinder walls. And was thinking of buying a Honing device. Which Honing device do you recommend? Also how do you properly Hone the wall?

Doesn't matter like the angles at which they intersect? Also how do I go about using it? Just move it up and down 2 times?

put the hone in and get a little tension on the springs. then use some ATF and have at it. try maintain a single speed around and up and down.

ok, so how long should you spend on each cylinder? where can you buy a hone with the cross hatch design? and is motor oil ok to use as lubricant?

Check these out . It doesn't take very long at all. You must be very careful when doing this though; removing too much material from the cylinder walls = costly machine work (overbore).
Basically you can rent (Autozone, Pep Boys), or buy a honing tool. Honda recommends a medium grit stone which is what most places stock. The tool runs about $30-$40 depending on where you live and can be easily returned/refunded if you plan on doing one engine.
Hope this helps.

Being that the crosshatch pattern is what helps cut the rings in (for sealing purposes), we don nothing except machine honing. Find a good local machine shop with a honing machine, and give them the $50 to do it.
Why chance it when a machine can do it right, and consistantly for not a lot of cash.

if you are going to do it by hand ....
stick the hone "bit" on a hand drill....maintaining a constant speed, as mentioned above....move the drill up and down in the cyl walls to get teh cross hatch pattern.....just dont go too far. and try not to stay in any one specific spot for too long. also....dont forget the ATF.

Re: (EE_Chris)
60 degree angle as mentioned in the Helms. I would definetly suggest a machine shop do this.
If your gonna do it yourself, you will want a bore dial indicator.............how do you know if your cylinder walls are not out of round?????????????? You just may need to overbore anyways. Just some insight, take it as you may.

Do that **** right or don't do it at all. I would only do this DIY crap if I was rebuilding my grandma's 8-valve cx motor. But for anything even remotely performance related, please take your head to a machine shop so they can properly bore and hone your block.
Like someone said, you need to know if your block it out of round, or if perhaps sleeves have moved. Having a proper honing machine will make a difference.
