HOW MUCH FOR A TURBO INSTALL??
i install them for 400 bucks but hey i do it in my back yard in a shop.. so i cant charge crazy rates like people do with a company...
3 hours is pretty do-able even with ebay kits..
i prob put a ebay kit on in 2 hours on a 99 coupe for a friend.. long as the charge pipes are close to right thats what takes all the damn time...
a full race kit i can put on in 3 hours taking breaks every few minutes.. lol everything is perfect.

But you find that you have about a thousand parts that you gotta figure out where it goes.

actually on ebay SRE makes a ic kit for specific apps.. and it fits like a glove only pipe i had to trim was the one going to the turbo they keep it long so if u have a ramhorn or topmount it will still work..
its like 180$ well worth it since its light aluminum not mild steel

How's about some pics after the install for everyone to see what kind of work this shop performed.
Next time, to save yourself some money. You might consider meeting a few friends that are into cars and that knows how to work on them a bit to save yourself some case.
I love working on cars so if you lived close to me then it would have only costed ya lunch and dinner.
Bottom line the price you paid is not that bad but still have to see some pics first.

ill be sure to post pics once its done
i dont know how nice it will look, the pipes are aluminium, but i plan to paint them and the intercooler matte black tommorow..
ill probably spray my muffler black too...
the last thing i want is some cop seeing some shiney stuff out the front or back and confiscating my car and giving me a $10k ticket
til now ive managed to keep it faily stock looking i dont have any special rims, not lowered excessively, no special head or tail lights, and i even left all the rust spots on to make it look like crap

lol i love how people claim they've installed kits in 2-3 hours. i will personally give you 1000 bucks if you record yourself installing a kit PROPERLY in 2 hours. that's ******* bullshit right there. 40 hours of labour sounds right with the modding of the exhaust and intercooler piping. a 350z twin turbo kit install pays 40 hours and that's labour intensive.
1500 bucks is not that bad at all. the shop i work at charges 1000 for a straight bolt in turbo kit but when **** doesn't fit, the rate goes up. that's just how it is.

i dont see how its that hard... internal gated turbo and amni bolt them up...
take off oil pan take 5 mins with impact.. drill out hole and tap it for bung .. another 10 mins
put oil pan back on 15 mins
bolt up down pipe...
tighten up all charge pipes and cut the single long pipe form SRE kit 30 mins
ssautocrome dp fit perfect to stock exhaust on my old dx so no cuttin just 2 bolts,,
bolt on the bov 1 minute.. run vacum lines 5 mins
change out injectors 5 mins
plug in ecu and crank her up thats about it.. yah it takes longer when u gotta install arps head studs and othe rthings to reinforce motor but to put a turbo kit on a sdtock block its pretty damn simple and fast...

I'd have o agree w/ turbo-charged and Tony1 100%.
It sounds to me as though your mechanic is wanting to get paid fairly for what he thinks would be labor intensive. You could pay him to make your charge pipe kit, or you could purchasea correct charge pipe kit. You could pay him to make your exhaust work, or you could purchase another one. Either route you take the difference in $ will be minimal.
Installing a proper fitting kit isn't difficult, could it be done in 3 hours...maybe, but what's the rush. Besides, this isn't a proper fitting kit so that is really irrelevant.

No oil feed, assembling fittings, dressing up the turbo, etc? Tapping oil pan for bung? What if it's a sheet steel oil pan, tap that too with JB weld?
Seriously, 2-3 hours is exactly what you get, a backyard install job --> incomplete, hacked, wrong...haha

I would have to agree that 40 hours is a little out of hand. UNLESS you are fabricating a manifold/ making your own piping/ tuning etc.. then 40 hours is not too rediculous. I would say to professionally install a turbo kit expect 4-5 hours for a Full-Race kit as they fit perfect
. . . and 12-15 hours for an ebay kit as they do not fit for crap

HAMOTORSPORTSUSA, I know what you mean. Anyone or any shop that claims they need that much time to do a turbo setup in a Honda is literally raping their customers. With the amount of available parts these days, there should be no excuses for taking that long to do such an install. It's not like it was back in the early 90's or anything when there was hardly any manufacturers dealing with Hondas/Acuras.
a real shop works for 65-100+ an hour, so if u buy a retard kit u get a retard price, extra work = extra money. installin a turbo kit is easy enough to do by urself just make sure u have the proper tools to do it though otherwise it will not be fun

This statement is 100% correct.
How much time is your mechanic going to have to waste just trying to get the parts to line up and fit?
Then once he gets them to fit, he has to put everything on the car.
So to answer your question, Yes I would say the shop you are going to is justified in charging you more then originally quoted.
Just be happy that you didn't drop the car off, expecting to pay $1000. Then when you get there, he turns around and says the price went up to $1500

you post pics by uploading them to a free webhosting service. you can use snapfish or photobucket or even facebook for example, and then you copy the url into your post like so:

but you use [] instead of {} - I just had to do it different or you wouldn't be able to see it typed.

it took me a good 20 hrs to to put on my turbo kit for the 1st time. as long as you do everyting the way its suppose to, it should take a good amount of time. **** it still takes me a good 5 hrs just to reinstall it if i take it off just mainly hard to reach to bolts and mine was also pieced together. but to the OP i hope you have good luck with that manifold cause your gonna need it. and yes hurry and paint that intercooler black. i love black intercoolers :-)
