Intercoolers aren't rated in psi, they're rated in cfm, and once you pass that rated cfm, you're out of the efficiency range of the intercooler and it isn't doing you as much good. I'd guess the Starion could handle 15 or so psi from a small turbo such as a TD04 or 15G, less boost from a bigger turbo, ie T4, flowing more cfm at the same amount of boost.
good luck,
Jared

Most likely runs out of steam around 14-15psi. Doesn't look sufficient to run something crazy like 20psi, andstock intercoolers seem to begin to die off around 13-15psi on starions anyhow.....

thanks turbo miata..
i was going to say miata guys run about 18psi on them but the degree of cooling is the issue. if you go higher then you might want to hook up a sprayer. Take the washer line and reroute it to the front of the IC...very easy and helps too....if ya dont know you can put ice water in there VERY EASY AND CCCCCOLD!

Theoretically, wouldn't a small intercooler be more efficient with a larger turbo (say an 18G) than a smaller turbo (T25) at say 16psi because the smaller turbo will be creating so much more heat than the big turbo?

Marc's right. Good old David Shih used to run 10's on a starion intercooler. Does anyone even remember him anymore?

Yea, the "silver bullet" what happened to him? Car had too much duct tape so no one would sponsor him

Not necessarily. It depends on your boost level. A small turbo with a small intercooler can be a great combination. You will have quick spool up and very small losses through the intercooler because it is small. However, if you are running high boost levels it's a different story. How much boost are you running?

I remember Dave Shih. I still remember when he broke into the 10's at Battle of the Imports. He almost wiped out when he tried to slow down from 135mph on rear drum brakes.
