Default How much Boost?...

I wanted to get some opinions/information about how much boost I should be able to run with my new motor and fuel setup. I want to know what amount of boost would be safe to tune for running at the track and also what gas I should be running at the track as well. I'm ofcourse referring to what I can run after fully tuning the Hondata.
The setup:
2001 ITR
Existing Turbo Setup:
Rev Hard Manifold, Turbonetics 60-1 HIFI, Same custom intercooler/piping etc.
New internals:
Arias 9 to 1 pistons on stock rods, Inlinepro blockguard, new OEM headgasket
All New Fuel management:
Hondata s200 w/ boost, 750cc injectors, Walbro 255 intank fuel pump, 3-bar Map

Thanks for any info.
Mark

9:1? your gonna need 30+ psi to make some decent power.

Hmm, I was told it's perfectly fine. I want to run approx. 15psi fully tuned on race gas.

9:1 is a good compression, it gives you the added safe range while tuning on the dyno that a higher compression won't. Yes, a higher compression will yield a slightly larger hp, but personally i would rather have a lower compression to be on the safe side. Your motor is only as strong as its weakest link though, a few guys on here have pushed 500whp on stock cyl walls but i think your weakest link are going to be your rods. Im not an expert on the c5 motor rods though, im sure some other members will further extrapolate on that matter for you. Other then that, if you have your car tuned at 15psi you'll be ok running pump gas. If you are looking at running more then 400whp i would recommend upping the octane, 110 or c16 is good. Keep in mind you'll need different base maps for 93 octane compared to 110 or c16.

I have a friend putting down 335whp at 13lbs-14lbs of boost on 9.0:1, a Drag III exhaust manifold and a Turbonetics T3/TO4E .48 A/R. I'm not sure what the stocks rods are good for but I would say around 300whp-320whp safely.

<edit>
I forgot to mention he has an 00 ITR. And I forgot to mention that's on pump gas (93).
</edit>

Huh? Thats strange, I hope your wrong. I'm aiming for nearly twice that.

I have access to very reasonably priced 93 octane so thats good to hear I should be able to tune it with that fuel.

Thanks

i dont think youll do it on those boost levels.
the rods are fine , i have been pushing around 300 on thme for a while at 8psi , on top of that been upping the boost alot lately. ive been going 9.6 lo boost and 11.6 or so set on hi boost on my stock motor and its great, i have seen those rods go over 450 already . . . but those people were lucky in my eyes.

Why would you go through all the trouble of just replacing the pistons?

that was exactly what i was thinking when i read the original post. if you're going to go with forged pistons, then at least go with some Eagle rods to handle more power. the stock R rods are good, don't get me wrong, just not gonna take what the Arias pistons are gonna handle.

also the C/R is a bit on the low side IMO. 9.8-10.4:1 C/R is a good range, but of course there are quite a few things to look at when choosing the C/R for a turbo motor. i lean toward a higher C/R and lower boost, but some like lower C/R and higher boost levels. but in turn both styles may make the same power overall. it's tradeoff. determining how much boost you can run is now limited to your stock rods. if Eagle or Crower etc. rods were used then the boost levels could be considerably higher without worrying about the internals failing so soon.

stock B18C5's run 280-325 WHP very well with lower boost levels, but how long they last depends on the abuse and the tuning/assembly of the setup.

FYI, I made 231whp on 7.5psi untuned with the 9 to 1 compression.
