... how to find boost leaks...???
... i searched the archives and didnt find alot... so i am hoping some of you guys have some tips/tricks... lemme know... thanks...
... btw, here are some of the stuff i found in the archives
- check pipes/connections (both visually and audibly)
- spray soapy water, rev, and look for bubbles
- spray wd40 and look for changes in rpm (is this real? can someone explain)

this connects to the turbo
</TD></TR></TABLE>
... can you elaborate on this?... i am not clear on how it works... i see that it covers the turbo... i am guessing that it closes the system and if there is a leak before the turbo, it will begin suck from there... but what about a leak after the turbo?... i dunno, i am prolly just missing something... anyways, lemme know... thanks...

Re: ... how to find boost leaks...??? (1.8T_EG)
you have to take the filter off of the turbo then clamp the home depot unit on.
Doing that will completely seal off the pipes so you can pump pressure through all your piping and intake manifold (keep your throttle plate open)
once you pump air into the system you should be able to find if there are leaks through the couplings, vacuum hoses etc...
if it doesn't hold pressure then you have a huge leak somewhere.. at around 15 or so pumps should get readings from your boost gauge ( have a friend take a look)
I had a huge leak on mine so bike pump wasn't sufficient enough to pump enough air to find the leak.... so I had to use a air compressor. There was a loud *** hissing sound through my EGR unit (which is now thrown out) and later on i found the EVAP vacuum line was also leaking. spray soapy water around the suspected areas will help find leaks also.
edit: oh yeah use those big bike pumps.. not the small hand pumps
