How do I Install Boost Gauge?
My friend just got a turbo civic and the previous owner included the boost gauge but didnt install it. I know nothing bout turbos so what I need to know is how do you hook up a boost gauge? It has a hose coming out of it and two wires-I think one black and one red. I think the hose goes to a vacuum line? Where does it go and where do the wires go?
The hose coming out of it is capillary tubing, that goes to a vacuum source under the hood. Most people prefer t-ing off the fuel pressure vacuum line. The black wire is a ground, you can just connect that to a chassis bolt somewhere under the dash. The red wire is a power wire, that can be connected to a few different locations. It is only for the light bulb, doesn't affect the boost part of the gauge. Some guys wire it into the fuse box, some tie it into the interior lights so when you turn your dash lights on, the gauge lights up with it. If you not sure how to do it, find someone to do it for you that knows what they are doing. It's really not that difficult, but you can mess some stuff up if you wire it wrong.
what?! What cost $400. isnt it just tapping into a vacuum line and tapping the electrical wires? I just dont know what wires and what lines to tap in to,.
No bro, you have to tap into the boost solenoid which requires a special tool to open. It can't be done unless you have this $400 tool.

=wow=. i dont think you know how to hook up a manial boost gauge....
why take it to a pro when you can do it your self. (its not hard)
$400 for a tool. lol you got ripped. what boost gauge need this tool? and what tool is it?
and YES YOU HOOK UP THE boost gauge to a vaccum line under the hood thats on the intake manifold. ( it really does not matter what vac hose you put it on. just tap into it. not the map sensor hose)
and for the wires just hook the black wire to a ground and the red to a lighting source wire.
good luck.
no, you have to tap into the boost solenoid, or else the gauge will only read vacuum and no boost. That "tool" was $ 400 about a year ago, i found mine for $ 300. You need to open the boost solenoid, there's really no other way around it .. i learned this the hard way.
I been modding turbo cars for years and never heard of tapping into the boost solenoid. (especially since most boosted N/A vehicles don't have one) It's always been and always will be tapped into a vacuum source under the hood. I have always used the vacuum line to the fpr and tapped into that.

For real, if he knows nothing about turbo setups, don't f**k with him
.
Hooking up a boost guage is very simple. Take the hose from the back and attach it to a vacuum source on the intake manifold. You may have to buy a plastic "T" and cut into an existing vac line. As for the wires...one is power and the other is ground. I spliced my boost guage wiring into my relay to the headlights so when i turn the lights on, the boost guage lights up. You can do it however you choose.
Power, ground and vac source...that's it. Its an hour or less to install

heres a site gives you good understanding on turbo honda's http://www.beesandgoats.com/boostfaq/g2icturbo.html
If you're still confused by everybody messing with you, try the manufacturer:

It's not his car, so I don't see why he should be given a hard time about learning about turbos.
However, if he plans on working on his buddy's car a lot, he definitely needs to learn about them.

5 min on google would have found your answer. Don't get mad when you ask a extremely silly question when the information is literally everywhere for you to read and learn about it.
this is correct. to everyone else trying to be cute, its not really funny to spread misinformation and give the guy a hard time just because he asked a noob question. its one thing to be sarcastic but to act serious and tell him there are special tools are required is just wrong.
ok lets think about this here...the reason there is a vaccume to begin with is the engine is sucking in air, thats why on an N/A car full throttle is 0 vaccume because the butterfly in the throttle body is open. On a turbo car there is a vaccume in the engine until there is enough of a load on the engine which causes the turbo to spool making boost forcing air through the entire engine which is why several years ago when the turbo honda thing just started to get big (when using a FMU was the right thing to do) people were using a check valve between the intake manifold and map sensor to keep it from reading boost because older honda map sensors can not read boost.
