Default hook up the waste gate to compressor, right?

Sorry for the newbie question, but you hook up a tube from the internal waste gate to the compressor to activate the wastegate at a given PSI right?

either that or a vacuum source on the intake manifold.

Thanks. Anyway to decrease boost pressure other than getting an external with a weaker spring? This wastegate that is on my turbo doen't increase length or decrease length when you twist the actuator arm.
Could I lengthen it(fab something, cut weld, JB weld etc) a little so the wastegate is cracked and leaks more exhaust out so the boost doesn't increase to more than 5psi or 6? Would this work or would it still build eventually but with a slow spool?

Hey, I'm probably going to be in a similar boat...I want to run about 5psi to start with and make sure everything's cool, but the internal wastegate is set at like 7 (though it's not a big deal)...I understand you can just get rid of the actuator and put a throttle return spring (from a carb) on it and if it's the right rate get about 5psi...I work at a parts store and you can get an assortment of 3-4 for a couple bucks...I think that should do the trick, but I'm not sure how to test it before putting it on the car...thinking...thinking...

how would you mount the spring? I heard of that on the Homemade turbo site, but the guy doesn't go into detail at all. I would guess maybe they welded the rod to it and attached it (welded or something) to the compressor at the right tension.

I'm gonna try the lengthening of the wastegate arm first to see if that works, I'm gonna make it adjustable somehow as well.
