Default Hood Venting for a turbo

Would it actually help to have a vented good for the sole purpose of hot air escaping your engine? I ask because I might actually vent my hood sort of like the predator style to vent it?

I've seen a CF hood for USDM integras that had the mugen style vent on it. It looked pretty damn sweet only I wish I knew who made it.

Will water affect the turbo or whatever gets in?? My vented CF hood is located right at the exhaust manifold. So will the turbo gets affected if water or rain gets in?? Or anything else gets mess up?? Or its safe? How about a machine car wash will anything gets damage with this vent??? Or I will be okay. I heard this from somebody that says if the exhaust manifold (header) or turbo manifold gets too hot and water touches it it tends to crack. Is this true??????? Btw, can i still use my factory rubber thingy that goes around the factory hood to be put on my cf hood? How do I take it off it seems to be glued very tightly or screwed down tightly. I really need imputs badly regardin my CF vented hood at the exhaust manifold thanks for all the great help.

i bought one of those reactive filters with the plastic heat shield to keep water out of that. im not sure about the manifold, of course its not good to pour water on something that hot, but if it only comes in drops it shouldnt hurt anything. ill probably end up fabricating a heat shield for my mani. and turbo just to be safe.

yeah you had better make a heat shield of some sort. anything more than a few drops of water and you can bet on the manifold cracking.

what hood did you get? if you are really worried you could use tape or something to block the vent temporarily until you can make a heat/rain shield.

You definitely don't want water touching your turbo when it is hot. Even though you can't see it, turbos get red hot sometimes. Get a bunch of water spraying on it and you WILL damage it. I would try to direct the airflow away from your exhaust manifold.

unless your getting the greddy kit, I'd think it would be tough to made a heatshield because the wastegate sticks so far up to the hood.

i just started on my heat shield. its thin sheet metal, hooks to the two bolts sticking up on the exhaust side of the valve cover, and has a hole cut for the tial and dipstick. ill make improvements on the design as i go, but it should work pretty good.

this was one of the main reasons why I had my external wastegate hanging down below, instead of on the top..

this is my current setup with the heatshield.. really to protect the hood from melting

this is my old setup. the turbo is down below on this one, as well as my HKS external wastegate, not only does this stop the rain, but I find it helps to cool things down as the wind coming from the fans on my radiator are forced to hang around that area, which keeps things cooler.

of course, if you guys want vents in your hood, why don't you just do what I did? its cheap (not even a dollar) and effective: raise the rear of the hood by adding washers and a bolt or two into the hinges that hold the hood to the body of the car.. works well, just don't forget to take off the heatshield from the underneath of your hood (if you have one)..

Does anybody know if my vented cf hood safe its vented above the manifold. I would hate to get rid of it. I just bought it 3 days ago too. Hate to blow a lot of money on something thats not safe. This really sucks.... Would I be able to bring it to a machine car wash and be safe?????? Or the manifold will crack and stuff?? How about on rainy days???? If its parked??? or driven???? I would deeply appreciate everyone feedback on this please Also any other ways to still keep my vented cf hood???? What will happen if manifold cracks????Thanks.

I looked into the imoto hoods a while back. Why don't you go log onto jegs.com and order some foam hood scoop plugs. They aren't expensive. When you get them in, just cut it accordingly to the vent sizes in the hood. Use them when it looks like rain and always have them in the car in case it does. On sunny days, just take them out and enjoy the benefits of the vents in the hood. I wouldn't take a nice car of mine to a car wash anyway...wash it by hand.

...for christ's sake! go to the local hardware store and spend $20 or less on some sheet aluminum and a pop rivet gun/ 1/8" pop rivets... on the way home, stop by the auto parts store for some aluminum polish(so you can make it pretty when your done) for a few more bucks. Make your custom heat shield simple as to keep water from pouring on the turbo and mainfold, but not as to block too much air flow... a desent example is provided above... the top picture is uglier, but more of what you want it to function like...
