Default Hondata VS. AEM EMS's

I am stuck between these two: Hondata 4b and the AEM EMS. I was told the AEM has more features than the hondata. Im not sure which one to get, many people run hondata on this board...so give me some feedback, what is your opinion on these two..compare the two...tell me some advatages of each, etc. etc. etc.

i think there is a article in honda tuning on the AEM.

with AEM u will have to be ginny pig for a while, unless u find a tuner who knows what to do. it does have more options but its a DIY process. if u have patience go for it. otherwise get hondata.......good customer service and HT members are here to help

do a search on Standalone, and hondata.................. this was discussed last week.

int3gra is right. I have an AEM on my Si and it has not been easy. Nobody really knows how to tune it. I live in Houston and ended up taking it to a domestic shop where they mainly deal with Speed Pro. The guy there was the only one to get my car running. Although it's not running well yet, but I should have it dynoed sometime middle of next week.
Good Luck!

Both are very good units, but the AEM comes with alot of cool features. Hondata is all I need and gets the job done very well.

supposedly they(aem) are working on some wideband o2 senor thing (i can't remember what) so you put that with the aem ems and it will tune itself.

i read it in a magazine i'll try to find it.

right now.for ease of use.i call hondata...later on(year or 2) when people(tuners) get good...it woud be a tough call.if youy really want the extra features..then aem all the way.if its not a big deal. then go hondata!
just make a checklist of what you want..then see what each offers.

Hondata is great because what it does is modify your stock ECU so that you can reprogram it. Thus all the other functions of the car that the ECU controls are unaffected, and you get what feels like a turbo car from the factory. Great for street and works well for racing.

By using the stock ECU however, you run into the limitation of what you can configure with the Hondata. The AEM EMS however, has many more settings to tweak, and if you want every last bit of power or control over every aspect of the engine management, then the EMS is what you want. You'll be trading easy tunability however, as more settings mean more things you can mess up.

It's going take AEM about 1 year revising their software and hardware before it will be good. A perfect example is when DFI gen 7 came out a lot of people couldn't wire it up on hondas because of a distrubuter problem , the first batch of people who bouht it sued Accel and won. Since then most of the bugs have been worked out. When dfi gen 7 first came out it was on version 1.1 , now its on version 2.0 in a matter of almost 1 year. So its going to take aem some time before things are up and good.

So for right now get hondata it rocks!

By the way hondata and aem arent the only computer systems out there. There is accel dfi, speedpro, haltech, Motec.

As we do only Honda, we like to think we do it better than anyone else. All our R&D is focused on Honda tuning. An example of that is our tunes library: www.hondata.com/tunerlibrary.html which is about to double in size, and our Tech section http://www.hondata.com/tech.html
