Hondata tuning options(NEED HELP)
ok, i just bought hondata s200 w/boost and datalogging, and i wanna start tuning it myself and wanna get the programmer and romulator, but im not seeing what the difference is between the Romulator realtime emulator, and the Programmer (requires ROM Editor V3), i know i will need the rom editor v3, but do i need both the romulator and the programmer or what?? maybe im an idiot, but can someone clarify this for me a little??? thanks-justin
the programmer is the thing that writes to the chip. So you NEED it. The romulator allows you to tune the hondata on the fly. It is more of a convience than anything, so it is not necessary.
Without the romulator this is how it will go.
1.) turn off car
2.) fix your map in the rom editor
3.) burn the chip
4.) install chip
5.) start car
6.) test
7.) repeat until tune is what you want
With the romulator its more like this:
1.) edit map
2.) test
3.) repeat until tune is what you want
4.) stop car
5.) burn chip
6.) install

Romulator is worth every penny. I will save you so much time. You wont have to turn off the car then the upload the new map to the emmulator. It's just annoying that you will have to turn off the car to upload the new map or changes everytime. With the romulator you wont have to turn off the car to upload any changes. It makes it much easier to tune.
You will need the pocket programmer to burn the chips or to transfer the maps over to the chip.
The chip is just a median that hold the info. YOu need something to transfer all the data into whatever medium you median, which is the pocket programmer.
So you need the pocket programmer no matter what.
If easier to tune with just the romulator then with the pocket programmer / emulator combo.
I hope that clears it all up.

yea, i was wondering about the wideband also, i know where to get the honda wideband o2 sensor, but which display meter should i use that is somewhat cheap, or can i display it all with hondata?? correct me if im wrong, but isnt there a option for a/f on hondalogger???
this might be of some service......doesnt work as good as a WB o2 but, its much cheeper and works good enough (for what u pay for) from what people who use it tell me.

well, does hondalogger have the option to display the air/fuel ratio from a wideband o2 sensor? or is it imperative that you get the display device!!!
Yes, the datalogger can display the WO2 output. However, it's hard to look at the road and turn your head to the laptop while driving.
I opted to use the FJO with the display unit on the steering column for a quick feedback. I then use the recorded datalog file to fine tune the map.

well, what is a somewhat cheap display that is descent quality?? oh and are the civic wideband o2's still on back order??? where is the best place to get them??
and i would prolly be ok for a little while using the laptop for the a/f display, i could just have a buddy ride along and help me out untill i save up some flow for an fto or something, anyone tried that DIY display??? cant remember who had it on here!

You do not need a display to be able to tune, but you need a wideband o2 controller such as the FJO for it to work. Just getting the Civic sensor will do nothing for you.

If you use the honda factory wideband o2 sensor from the vx, you will need a controller for it. It is a 5 wire heated o2 sensor. It will not work without the controller. Tech edge makes a controller kit and FJO makes a very nice complete kit.

The tech edge kit is half the cost but you have to supply your own sensor.

Mainly it is whatever works for you.

I would get the romulator first if price is an issue, it has a battery so it can hold the tune for a year.
I have my romulator semi-permanently mounted and will only burn a chip after a few weeks of tuning.
