Hondata popularity...
Hi,
I did some research(on this forum and other's) and it would appear that Hondata is a more popular solution vs Zdyne Gold ECU when it comes to boosted Hondas. Is there any particular reason for this? Is there something that I am not reading from both companies pages that I should know?
I mean both allows pretty much the same thing... adjust timing and fuel and can see boost.
For me, I almost like Zdyne better because it allows for adjustments on the fly. But Hondata does offer datalogging. Another reason I almost like Zdyne better is that it can use the PM6 ECU which only requires 1 O2 sensor, where as PR3/PW0 requires two.
See here's my situation, 91 CRX with B16 swap using PR3 ECU. But I am in the process of building my system... and I am stuck on the management part. And it seems to be really hard finding enough information to make an informed decision, basically, it seems to be hard finding information on Zdyne.
If anyone could shed some light, that's be great!
thanks,
-S

I could be wrong, but I believe Hondata is for Obd I vehicles. And Zdyne is for Non obd vehicles.
Since most people have newer cars this leaves them with Hondata.

not really a popularity contest, they are for totally different applications. one is a preobd and the other obd1. The zdyne unit is straightforward nothing fancy that you can't figure out yourself. No need for adapters, buttons, wiring harness, etc., all in the software. Let me know if you have any questions about it.
i think you're right....
I know nothing about the new Greddy E-manage piggyback computer, except if it can control the stock ECU well enough, it will definitely be a contender...especially if it is an obd2 solution also. and its supposedly way cheaper than other solutions. keep an eye out.

regarding the pre OBD vs after... I have read that Hondata does infact have applications for pre OBD, specifically the PR3/PW0 ECUs...
Since I have both ECUs, the PR3 with the swap, and the PM6, i guess that's where my 'confusion' comes in...

Actuall I do have 2 questions...
If I go with Zdyne using my CRX ECU, will it allow me to use the knock sensor from the b16?
also, I heard/read something about Zdyne only being adjustable to 5000rpms? is this true?
thanks,

one thing you have to consider too is the start up price for both systems. hondata offers stages for thier systems as for zdyne you only get two choices and most of the time people buy the gold secu. i for one like the zdyne better , but, for my application id go for a stage 2b from hondata... my 2 cents
