hondata p28 socketed ecu

i'm getting my ecu socketed for my hondata ems. and i was wondering after they socket the ecu can i drive my car down to get my car tuned with the socketed p28?

as long as u have some type of basemap, or some kind if chip. If they socket it and you have no chip ur car will not even start.
