i just got my hondata from importparts today and there is a chip in the hondata box. does this chip go in the ecu? and do i have to remove my vafc? i already installed it an the red led stays on and the car runs hella rich and like pure crap.

i have already done a search, and looked on the hondata website and it hasnt helped at all.. according to hondata i put everything in right, but it still runs crappy.
oh ya the cel stays on too.

take out ur vafc 1st...did you install the big chip..little chip and resitorors...cut some jumper...what ecu you runnin....base maps shouldn't be to bad

 

My basemap ran like utter garbage until I got tuned.

 

everything was done to the ecu except there was a big chip an i put that in.. going to uninstall the vafc right now.. ecu is a jdm p30

 

base map -> car runs like poo
tuned -> car runs better than poo

You solved your own problem. Base maps are only intended to get the car running.

 

ok vafc uninstalled and now car will not hold an idle.. this is kinda frustrating

 

did you connect OEM map sensor wire back together at the ecu? hehe

 

um, he said the big chip isn't installed. isn't that where the map would be stored? he must be running stock ECU with the hack still connected...

thats why it doesnt run with the hack taken out

 

wait um, you didn't put the chip in the ecu? contrary to popular belief, you're not supposed to eat this chip.. it actually has the fuel maps/timing maps/code that runs your car.

ok im an idiot.. the chip is in.. i didnt put in the jumper in the j1 slot.. so im lookin at my ecu right now and i see j2 and j3 but no j1..

 

right above the chip area on the right... says J1

 

is that a usdm ecu? cause im using a jdm ecu if that makes a diff.. and i still dont see it!

that's a usdm p72? are you using like a square jdm ecu?

do you see J1 in my pic?

 

i dont know what i just did but now its idleing fine.. im using a jdm p30 and the j1 is on the underside of the ecu.. and it already has the jumper on it.. i pulled the chip out and put it back in now it works fine.. thanks for your help!

Should be on. The insturctions on the CD or from the Hondata website in the Downloads section should tell you exactly how to socket a JDM ECU.

 

solid red = good
blinking red = bad
