Hondata connection issues?

Hondata connection issues?
I have the older Hondata with the Rom editor 2.5.If i use a serial to usb connector should it connect? or was it provisioned only in the new software? i cant get mine to connect. and its close to impossoble to get a Serial on a laptop anymore.
