Hondata or AEM, need to decide!
Alright fella's, I'm really stuck here between going Hondata or AEM. To me it seems as if AEM, although more expensive, is more of a true standalone (this directly from SFP who has ALOT of Hondata tuning experience) therefore it might be more feature friendly and the better over performer of the two. On the other hand, Hondata is cheaper, more readily available and has the track experience already. So what do you guys think? Should I just go out and spend the $1300 on an AEM already or buy a $120 P28 ECU, $250 OBD-II -to- OBD-I harness and $600+ for Honda 2b/3b?? I'm getting tired of all these band-aid's and I'd like to have a system ready for my engine after the build this summer. Which would YOU do in my shoes?

Well, I faced the same decision as you and I just ordered a hondata 3b through the groupbuy. I did not want to wait for reviews of the aem system and there is no doubt that the hondata works. I guess I could have just as easily gone with the aem system but I need it now and I had to make a decision so I got hondata. Sorry if this doesn't help but this is what I did.

Dave I would say hondata man. Consider the costs of tuning if you plan to make $$$ a factor cuz I am sure tuning costs wil be quite a bit more. I spoke to Abid in regards to a Haltech and he said sure the cost is only a couple hundred more but tuning would be the BIATCH plus the install. AEM is a direct plug and play right?

Well I mean, I'm gonna pay roughly $1000+ for the Hondata + tuning, or $1300 + tuning for the AEM. Installation isn't much since the AEM is plug n' play, so it boils down to a difference of a couple hundered bucks for the two system.. so mainly what I want to do is get the best performing setup for the street, with relative ease of tuning. I don't need anything hardcore since this isn't a weekend racer, but I want to be sure that whatever I get would be the best for my application wether it be AEM or Hondata..

AEM is too new to trust it implicitly for a daily driver setup. Hondata has been around the block. I say go with Hondata, they have the experience and reputation to build a hot daily driver around IMHO.

I say....if your gonna get it for a summer project, then just wait til then. Let someone else be the test mule for the AEM EMS. Like with everything in the world....usually the first time a product comes out, whether it be a car or a program, it always comes stock with glitches and flaws. If I was get a AEM it'd be the one they make next year after all the bugs get fixed. I choose Hondata BTW.

At least we know that Doug will come directly on honda-tech and answer your questions. When has AEM ever made customer support a priority?
At least you know with Hondata that you are using Honda electronics.

DFI sorry its kind of late working 14 hour days.LOL Why do you say not honda specific? Computer Harness etc is provided with the kit.

PS. If most of the 10 and 9 second honda driver's use it, it must be good enough for us.

On another note I am sure I am not the only one that wants over 30 psi of boost at the track on some go go juice. With hondata 29 psi and you are over the limit plus don't forget about the nos users. I am not arguing just stating my opinion from my point of view. If you are looking for a 10 - 15 psi daily driver then its a diff story. But most of my friends are serious about going fast and 10 -15 psi dont' crave their needs. lol

Sure you don't mean DFI? DFI is kinda outdated and isn't honda specific.

my buddy has the new DFI gen 2. The software & hardware is pretty impressive. You can input things like valve size, runner length, ect. and the software will build you a baseline map. It can do seq, batch, or staged fuel injection, soft touch rev limiter, vtec activation, built in datalogging 30 mins no laptop required, and a whole lot of other stuff that is all standard. of course it has a fully integrated wideband option. The software is windows, and that's the only thing i don't like about it. FAST's DOS software is so much faster, simpler, and easier to navigate.

The Thunder Alley race car owned by Jeremy is running it. I believe they may be the first ones running the new DFI on a Honda.

I'm going with the DTA FAST system. It's a greatly priced system that offers more than a few out there for double the price. Check it out at http://www.dtafast.co.uk
You won't be disappointed. Check out the screen shots or download the software and play with it.

Re: Hondata (hatchy)
Well, it looks like you guys have pretty much convinced me to go Hondata, and I thin I wll considering Hondata's reputation. Now here's the second half of the question... what stage?! Again, this is a daily driver, nothing hardcore. It'll be on a build D16 with a goal of 300whp for track duty/ 250 for daily duties once I get a new turbo kit, but on the GReddy I'd be happy with it's max (roughly 220whp for the TD04 at the track). I'm knowledgable with my car, but i'm no tuner, therefore I don't need the ability to tune things myself since I don't carry a lambda meter in my pocket anyways.. so 2b, 3b, 4b? Opinions??
