Default Home Made Heatshield & A/C line insulation question

In an effort to reduce IATs, I tried my hands on making a heatshield for my log-type manifold. Well, here is what it looks like:

BTW, can anyone comment of whether I should remove the insulation on the high pressure side of the A/C line? That thing is hot on its own and insulating it might not be correct.

looks really good and if you paint the shield, compressor housing and intake coupler black you might be able to hide it from 80% of the cops.

I used the same principles as a brake.

2" x 2" angle bar on the inside diameter of the bend and put my weight on it. Then a flat 4" long by 1" wide by 1/16" thick strip of steel to bend the sheet up.

The shield itself is made of an aluminum cookie sheet. The little screws in front are stainless steel.

Yes I did. I get an average of 151 & max of 167 deg F at the filter. The air intake is inside the engine bay.

Thanks for the compliment The temps I posted are before the heatshield. It was logged using Crome.

Yeah, they are that high. I live in the tropics and ambient temperature is about 95 deg F.

That would be quite a challenge. I dont' think I could do that coz each ram horm has different dimensions. These shield are as variable as our manifolds.

AWESOME!!!!

I actually posted a question about making a manifold heat shield a few weeks ago and some kid said "Why would you want to cover up a $600 manifold"

Besides my internal response of "Why the hell would you spend $600 on a manifold", THIS IS THE ANSWER!! Looks sweet, hides the turbo setup from cops who are inspecting your engine bay, and keeps heat away from where it should be.

Good job man.

Also, what log manifold is underneath that shield, and how did you secure it to the block/head?

It's an Edelbrock turbo kit's manifold. I installed an L-bracket on the 2 outer most manifold bolt. On the Edelbrock kit, the bolts are replaced with studs. The manifold has a nut holding it down. There is an extra length of stud where I placed the bracket and another nut.

The bracket comes straight up then back towards the head. I used a tap to thread the hole on the bracket. That way, I don't need a nut, just bolt the shield onto it.
