Default HKS SSBOV QUESTION????????

Currently I have a HKS SSBOV. I am being told the flutter that car is making is the blowoff. I have also heard I have compressor surge. No matter how loose I make the bolt on the blowoff the sound never changes. Is this the correct sound that it should be making? I went to http://www.alltrac.net/tuning/blowoffvalve.html and the HKS sounds they have on the site are not what mine sounds like. I am trying to figure out if something is wrong with the blowoff or if the sounds being made are the correct sounds. Any input you have would be greatly appreciated.

That's funny because I have the same problem and no one here had an idea what to do. My guess is they may be failing and hopefully one of these days I'm going to take it apart and rebuild it.

At low boosts it flutters...thatsj ust how it is. Those clips dont sound like mine either. Mine is more of a quick high pitch whistle like those.

Is it brand new? I think I have heard about 4-5 different sounds come out of my HKS. Its different at 1 psi, 4 psi, 10 psi. Usually mine flutters at 1-3 psi. Above that it just psssh and sounds like that sound clip from alltrac.net. Those sound clips are when the car builds boost and is sustained.

I've had this thing for almost three years. It seems the sound is deteriorating, regardless what boost level I'm at. Blah.

hey doodoo,

Not sure if you remember my post that was similar to this, but I did get that purple insert that's supposed to provoke a lower tone. Unfortunately, the bov sound is still the same.

The whole turbo kit is about 2 months old. I am only running about 6 lbs of boost. If I am in low(1 -2 lbs) boost it just makes the flutter, after that it makes a chirp and then the flutter. I am just concerned about compresser surge screwing up the turbo.

I cleaned up my vaccum setup when I had to install the boost sender for my Defi gauge. I used one of the sources from my intake manifold and teed it. To the left goes directly to the BOV. To the right is teed first to my AVC-R MAP sensor then to the Defi sensor. It's funny because before I blew my motor, the BOV emitted a very mean sound. Ever since I lowered my comp ratio from 10:1 to 9:1, it hasn't sounded mean since. Not to mention, the sound is a little weaker ever since I stepped up from a .50 to a .63 a/r. Hrmmmmm

Mine sounds exactly like the high pitched one on that site.

Before the built motor, it fluttered at anything 7psi and below. Now at 10+psi it is very very loud and high pitched. It's almost deafening if you have the window open.....it's koo in a tunnel.

I hear the difference with my purple insert only at low boost. When higher and sustained its about the same chirp. I have my exhaust uncorked now and I can barely hear my blow off.
