Default High compression + turbo...

I was thinknig of doing a somewhat minor rebuild / buildup on a b18c1, eventually, and running the engine for a while before putting a turbo on it. I am planning on turning the crank and honing the cylinders, new bearings and ctr pistons, having a valve job done, and I was thinking of using one of those thin 2-layer mugen head gaskets. Any opinions on if this motor will run decently, maybe on 93 octane? Also, if this motor would be a good candidate for low boost, or if I should rebuild the motor with a lower compression ratio for the turbo. Also, hows the skunk2 stage 2 cams? Good choice? Thanks in advance.

higher compression will need higher octane pending on the compression, to prevent pinging and detonation, a lower compression will le ur car handle more boost and u wont necessarily need high octane

Well put...I was gonna say that but u beat me to it, oh yeah lets not forget about Hondata, u'll need it...trust me, i've hear stories from kats on this board sayin that they wished they got hondata instead of the Apexi piggyback, trust me comin from a guy who has Hondata, its worth the money

high c/r + high boost = high hp
But is also a combo for disaster, so if you dont trust your tuning skills or maybe dont know what detonation sounds like you should probly stay away from this set up until you know the sound and feel of a healthy turbo motor. Dont rely on tuners & dynos too much because deep down no one cares about the well being of your motor more than you do.

low compresion is going to be easyer to tune, live longer(rings) and your going to be able to run higher boost on pump gas than a high C/R motor.

PCT slugs in a B18C yield a pretty high C/R not to mention (downsizing to a 2 layer headgasket, which I would never do) and BOOSTING which I would NEVER do... Trust me, you'll have fun tuning your car NA with little mods you've mentioned, without boost on 93... Besides the fact that you're already working with a high C/R the pistons just aren't going to take it... If you were crazy, ran Meth and built a ~13.50:1 boosted motor to tell you the truth I don't even know how much boost you could run then (and Meth will support a lot higher boost levels)... Really if you plan on doing your PCT slugs, etc. I would just stay all motor... If you drop some lower compression forged pistons in then boost... To just kind of give you ideas of what is possible... One of our guys, Lane has his stock sleeved B18C/EJ6 running JE 81.50mm 9.50:1 pistons, Eagle rods, Portflow head, Hondata, and a T3/T04E... He runs it ONLY on 92 (highest here in Oregon) makes 375whp on that and runs consistent 11.50's@125 in his full interior hatch weighing 2600lbs... That's not super fast but it's not bad for pump gas and a stock sleeved motor... Just my $0.02...
