what exactly does a wastegate do? i know it sets the pressure of the turbo by limiting the exhaust gas that runs into the manifold. but where do the gasses go?

can someone educate me on this...im an amatuer

If you look at the back cover of that bookl there is a turbo Honda. That may imply that turbo Hondas work around the same turbo principles as every other car that

A. Came from the factory with a turbocharger
B. Had an aftermarket turbo system added after it was purchased.
