help:: whats this mean????????? pics inside
ok, today i just got my new block in and everything hooked up..after startup white smoke was everywhere(filled my garage up) then i noticed a water leak so i shut it down, then i noticed this!
could it be from when i burnt up the rings in my old block??could there be oil in the turbo?? and if i let the car run will it burn out?heres a pic to show you what it looks like..more pics-info ::scroll down

Seals are most likely gone....rebuild needed.
Jon
EDIT: Take it outside and let it run for awhile....If the smoke doesnt go away, then seals are gone.

not always true, the seals can go on the turbine side, but be fine on the compressor side.

do not start, when seal are bad. you can lose alot of oil. and it wont burn out right away it takes a while. you could starve the bearing from to much oil lost. trust me i have seen it. and to rebuild i would not suggest just get a new one

yeah, rebuilding a turbo without a proper rebalance at a turboshop is risky to say the least.
sell it as a rebuildable core on ebay and go get you another turbo.
you still have a stock exhaust setup around somewhere?? toss that on there and crank it up with the turbo feed line plugged up and see if the smoke clears (since there's probably oil still in the exhaust that needs to burn out....)

Re: help:: whats this mean????????? pics inside (stackz)
well if the seals were bad would the car run weird or would it just leak oil?? also this is an almost new turbo, just burnt a ring...so im not really trying to get a new one...costs way too much, id rather pay a 2-300 to rebuild....

the car shouldnt run weird, it shuold just smoke alot. If the car does run weird, then check and see if the seals on the compressor side are shot as well. Just pull a charge pipe off and check for oil residue. The odd running confition could be caused by the motor ingesting oil
EDIT: Cheapturbo.com (now Phoenixturbo) charges 250 for the average rebuild, including rebalancing

Re: (sykotik sol)
Looks like you have oil coming out of the exhaust ports, that wouldn't be a turbo seal. Like was said before could be the valve seals or the rings. Depends on what was done to the engine.

Re: (nsxmatt)
well this head was on 2 other block that burnt pistons/rings, thats what leaves me to believe it might be the head....
the block is brand new 0 miles, built by inline pro..so theres nothing the matter w/ block its either head or turbo or some other source of oil...
since its an ls/vtec setup, do you think oil could be coming in somewhere else? but i tapped in where all ls/vtec oil lines are put and turbo oil feed is coming from golden eagle oil filter adaptor

Re: (sykotik sol)
I would "guess" it's the valve seals. If you have a compression fitting for the spark plug hole it's not hard to change them out with the head on the car but with that much money in the block I would take the head off and have a machine shop go over it just to be sure.
