Help with valve/head problem.
Okay this is my first time building up a head so please help me out.
F23A1 Head
-Port Flow machined and ferrea valves/springs/retainers installed by port flow
-Web cam regrind
Problem:
Everything looked liked it installed fine but after I torqued the rockers back and attempted a valve adjustment I noticed that 3 of my timing plates had hair line cracks in it. When I backed out the valve adjustment screw on that intake valve the screw would always sit on the valve. I could lift it off the valve with my fingers and slide a feeler gauge in but it just didn't "float" like the other 3 valves. Is that normal?
I have a feeling that the new valves are slightly taller than the old ones so when I installed the rockers back without loosening the screw it bent the timing plate back. Does that sound plausible?
And once again is it normal that when the cam is at cyl 1 TDC one of the intake rockers lay on the valve with very little force?
Here is a picture of the timing plate. I drew in the crack since my camera sucks.

Re: Help with valve/head problem. (stinker504)
After closer inspection I think I figured out what I did wrong. Which side of the metal stop should the bottom of the timing clip be on?
I'm talking about the red circle at the bottom.
Should it look like this?
Or like this???

Bump. I'm pretty sure the the picture with the clip on top is the correct way since I have a lot more room to move. I just want a confirmation.

I believe the clip should go on top. Id search though cuz i cant remember off the top of my head. If the valves seem taller then most likely the valve height wasnt set after the valv job. Call Tom and ask him what he thinks the problem is. Hesa really cool guy to work with and hes always willing to help you out. He can talk your ear off though
