most everyone does a OBD2 to obd1 conversion and then runs something such as a Hondata or Neptune for tuning. Doing this exact thing to a 96 HB myself currently
It depends what your overall plans/goals are for the car. If you only want about 8psi of boost or less, you might want to stay with OBD 2 and put a piggy back controller like the Apexi V-AFC controller with some larger injectors such as 440cc. Or you could use the Vortec FMU with a Missing Link (the part)or one-way check valves to trick the MAP sensor into not reading the boost pressure.
I had a B18B using the Vortec 10:1 fuel management unit, with the Walbro 255lp/h fuel pump and it worked good for 2 years, using one way check valves for the MAP vacuum line. It's simple, and it works on low boost, but anything higher than about 8psi of boost is risky because it's such high fuel pressure for the fuel pump to produce. To use the one way check valves, I had about 3 of the one way check valves, and three plastic T's (I guess is the word). So it will be shaped like a box, where you have the vacuum hose then a T. One side goes to a one way check valve, then the other side of a T goes to another check valve. Lots of people also do the V-AFC controller and just tune it with larger injectors on OBD2. But by the time you do this, you might as well switch to the OBD1 chipped Hondata or other kind of chip.
The better way to do it is use a OBD2 to OBD1 jumper harness, then use a OBD1 computer, and tune it.
