Default Help me Decide guys!! D16 or LS

here's the story: i have a turboed d16y7. its running on afc and 6lbs of boost and i like it. but the motor is 190k miles old! that means there has to be some change pretty soon, but i dont have too much money. awhile back i bought forged rods and pistons for the sucker and i was planning to buy a newer d16 block to put the pistons and rods in, tune it right with uberdata, boost it around 12-15 lbs? how much power will i get out of that setup?

Anyways, recently i've been lookin at Ls motors on recycler and some are pretty cheap, around $1,000. SO that got me thinkin and now i cant decide which i want. the LS has more potential when i turbo it... but the cost to swap to an Ls will be worth the block and tunning that i was gonna get for my D16!!! what should i do guys?? sell my rods, pistons and get an ls and turbo it? or keep building the d16??

keep in mind that everything has to be under around 1500... college student... skipping meals for car parts...

Well its hard to tell you how much power your will make becuase of tuning (big key to making good power) and you never mention what turbo you are running. I personally like the d series especially if your on budget. You can get a block for DIRT cheap and install the rods and pistons you already have and you will have a block that can handle good power (full race just made 455whp on stock sleeves). I say go with the d16 if money is an issue. I would only swap if you have lots of money to make a big nasty build.

Like the old saying says "Fast, cheap, reliable" choose two.

Please don't start this bullshit again. It's been beaten to death more than SS Autochrome topics, and nothing good will come of this thread other than useless flaming. Make your own decision, there is more than enough information on here to make an educated choice.

chilll man. no one's out to flame on anything. the fact that there are so much info actually makes it hard to decide, i dont need the technical info so much, i need opinions from people who've done it (or both) as to which would be a simpler and bigger bang for the buck.

Add: is it a lot more expensive to swap and turbo a b18 than a d16? cuz to get my d16 up to the 250hp level i already expect it to be near $1000 already: block, ecu, dyno tune, etc...

It's depends on how much money you have, the turbo d series for most cost less than the b series.

In my opinion...Unless you want a 400+ whp monster then you should stick with the D series....

With the 1000 bucks you will spend on the B18 you can get a d16 block and build it for boost and get250-300whp and be very happy.

you will spend 1000 on a B series just to swap it, and you still dont have a turbo setup for that motor, that will cost you more.

will it be realtively cheap to build a D for 300whp? sounds exciting!

its just a simple fact that a b seris is better and had way more potenchial than a d seris but it cost more. the same goes for k seris. its just a fact that a k serish is better and has more potenchial than a b seris but cost more

so it just comes down to money
if you have the money to go b serish they go b seris.

me persionally i would never go d seris. even if i dident have the money i rather get nothing and save for a built b seris vtec motor.

he said he wants 250 hp. swapping a b series for that goal is not only retarded but a waste of money that can be better spent elsewhere. i just got done turboing my stock 230,000 mile D16A6 in my 91 Si with a cheap *** setup (log, 14b, CCA fmic, DSM BOV, 2.5 downpipe) cost me around 600 when everything was said and done and the mani, DP and FMIC were all brand new parts not used. i can honesty say on 7psi it feels almost as fast as my stock SRT did.

yes d series **** is interchangeable. the only difference is the pistons will have different compression ratios in different motors. like a 9:1 piston in one motor might be 9.5:1 in another or 8.5:1 in another due to the different combustion chamber sizes.
