Head Gasket Question?
hey guys,
I had sleeves done at darton and they bored the sleeves to big for the pistons i have so they paid the difference and bought me bigger pistons. I had wisco 85mm and now I have arias 86 mm, will the factory OEM head gasket still work that I have. It is a 1mm difference. I was told yes, because the factory head gasket is a little bigger than the factory bore (for clearance).I wanted to get you'lls opinion.please help!
thanks

So your gasket is 85mm and your sleeves and pistons are 86mm? I would think the crush ring on the gasket might come into contact with the edge of the cylinder and maybe not seal well. Have you placed the gasket on the block? How much hangs over (I know 1mm) but how bad does it look?

Re: Head Gasket Question? (forcedaccord95)
you can prolly get away with 0.5mm, not sure about 1mm...service limit is 0.5mm...I use stock headgasket on 81.5mm bore
get a sandpaper and sand the edges of the headgasket lil bit to get it a lil larger...never tried it, but don;t see why it won't work..

thanks for the quick replys guys, you have been a huge help! I called the machine shop after reading the last post (THANKS TO NINESCRX) and earl at edge brothers machine, he measured the clearance on the head gasket. he said it would be fine and that I did not have to do to the overbore on the gasket. he said that the factory overbores it for clearance from factory! thanks again!
